A BRIEF HISTORY OF FBI SEMIAUTO PISTOLS

An interesting read: It is a myth that the FBI dropped the 10mm for the .40 S&W.

One Response to “A BRIEF HISTORY OF FBI SEMIAUTO PISTOLS”

  1. Lyle Says:

Interesting. They did issue 10mms, but the S&W’s mechanical problems sort of killed the idea with FBI. So the myth is only kind of true. They did consider the 10mm, they did test it, they did issue it, and they did call for a reduced load for it which of course defeats the purpose of it anyway and so you might as well carry a 40. Any they did end up with 40s, but not in the way we’ve all been told.

Not that it matters. If they’d focused more on training and screening, and training, and screening, and education on basic principles including the one that say don’t take yourself too seriously, then the choice of cartridge and load is far down the list of priorities. Thus all of that ever-so-serious and oh-so-dire process of testing and selection and court cases and blah blah is a mostly bunch of gobblety gook.

Fairing poorly in a fight with determined killers, who have experience in killing and were mentally and materially ready to fight before you were, is not necessarily a matter of your pistol’s caliber or its mechanics. Believing that it is will get you into more trouble later on.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
