Marines strike in the caliber war

Via NJT, we learn that the Marines’ special operators will no longer be able to carry 1911s in 45ACP. Operators will now only be allowed to carry Glock 19s, a fine choice. I would say the Glock 17 would also be a good choice.

Doesn’t sound like they are too “special.”

SOCOM standardized on the Glock 19 (type designated the Combat Assault Pistol) over five years ago.

    From NJT:
“I figure in less than 2 years you won’t be able to buy a box of Winchester White Box .45 ACP at any Walmart. Then in less than 10 online perveyors will stop offering it. In 25 years even the esoteric catalog houses won’t carry it. People will look at you funny like you are trying to get .22 Jet or 6mm Lee Navy.

Does this mean the .45ACP will be the next hipster cartridge?

Our government at work. Just a few years ago, the Marines threw a bunch of money at Colt for new 1911s. IIRC, it came to over $2000 per pistol when support and spare parts were figured in.

Since the “operators” who actually use sidearms in combat have been mostly using M1911s I’d hardly call that enough of a endorsement of Glocks to call a Glock “a fine choice”. If Glocks are so fine why were they using M1911s?

In 2011, the Wyoming Highway Patrol dumped their Glocks and replaced them with the M&P40. Every WHP Trooper I’ve talked to says that the M&P40 is a major improvement over the “fine” Glock.

Whoa… does that mean my Glock 17 is a ‘combat assault pistol”? Wow.. bad dude!

I think such people as SOCOM or Force Recon or SF etc… can pick what they want. I mean they are not babies.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
