Super owners

About that ridiculous “study” on gun owners and how many guns they own, just check out The Gun Feed. Needless to say, it’s crap.

  1. Joe Says:

44% of gun owners are either male or female.

    Science!

  2. SPQR Says:

I think the actual piece is at Ammoland by Dean Weingarten.

In addition to the expected underreporting, I’ve seen gun owners who deny being gun owners reflexively because they don’t consider the rifle, shotgun or handgun inherited from “Dad”. Friends who have told me they weren’t gun owners later showed me such a gun.

My typically wordy comment elsewhere today when I linked that piece:

So whats the takeaway from this totally independent and non-partisan study up thayuh at hahvahd?

Well, theyve got a pretty low threshold for super-owner, folks who have amassed 17 guns. Shit, I guess Ive been a super owner since I was still in my teensa couple three .22s, four cals of hunter hardware, a shottie each for birds, slugs, clays, and my daddys old double were my long guns then. Add a ruger .22 MK I, a single-six, and a Browning Medalist comp gun, two hog legs in 357 and 44, an old-school mo. 10 Smif, my birth-year 54 Colt Cobra and I was already past their threshold before I even thought about or could afford collecting.

A stint as a counter kid in the 60’s at the old-line hardware store where I had first dibs on the trade-ins, 5 years in a union mill job where the dough afforded me to buy some nice vintage stuff just because, and segueing into a 40 year career in the pawn/gun/jewelry biz where for a couple decade period I thought all the best/biggest/newest/oldest shootin irons had to go home with me, and there was an extended time frame where triple digit gun ownership was a minimumadd the inventory of my various shops which were technically mine even though it was a corp. and you could add another digit to that.

Semi-retirement and selling the stores in the middle naughties found me content to pare back to the things I actually needed and that had meaning to me, and I was back to around their ownership threshold in the teens.

Then Obama came along, and guess what happened?

Those motherfuckers and mothersuckers actually have no clue of cause/effect on firearms ownership/circulation and it even escapes them exactly why the violent crime rate has plummeted: The desire to own a gun for protection theres a disconnect between that and the decreasing rates of lethal violence in this country. It isnt a response to actuarial reality one brainiac says. Yeah theres a disconnect alright you clueless clod. And then theres this: If we hope to reduce firearm suicide, if we hope to reduce the other potential dangers of guns, my gut is, we have to speak to that fear, says the lead author of the study.
Yep, totally academic, independent, and non-partisan stuff right there.

How in Gods name have these people survived, let alone gained position and control of so much of our lives and our future? Speaking of in Gods name, maybe not for much longer. Then firearms ownership can level off to actual need and desire instead of hording for insurrection, civil war, and SHTF. But I think most of us here would still qualify for their super-owner mantle, thats kind of minimum maintenance level for real Murcans.

I sold all my guns “for the children”.

So gun bloggers are arguing the facts, when the anti-gun folks are doing something useful to their cause.

The anti-gun folk are demonizing legal gun ownership, “othering” gun owners, conflating gun ownership with mass murder or criminal misuse of firearms. This propaganda stuff works, you know.

We need not to argue the facts, which have NEVER mattered to the anti gun side. We need to demonize their efforts to infringe the right of self defense, “other” the lying sacks of excrement who produce such false studies, and conflate their efforts with the KKK, Nazis, Communist mass murderers. Again, this propaganda stuff works, you know.

  6. Ron W Says:

@mikee, excellent point! So called liberals are now authoritarians who have no problem trampling the Bill of Rights when it comes to disarming citizens just as did their fellow leftist travelers like the National Socialist Workers Party in Hitler’s Germany and the Communists in Stalin’s Russia and Mao’s China. Right now, Hillary Clinton is campaigning for the SECRET, ARBITRARY “no fly list” which is a flagrant violation of the 5th Amendment in order to VIOLATE “due process of law” to infringe on the people’s right to armed self defense.

  7. The Old Coach Says:

Heck, I’ve got five paint guns, half a dozen caulking guns, two fully automatic grease guns, a cake decorating gun, several staple guns, two hot glue guns, two semiautomatic nail guns which both take 100 round clips . . . . . .

  8. Kasper Says:

Five paint guns and two semiautomatic nail guns…what on earth do you need with an arsenal like that? Can’t you use a brush and hammer?

I have a squirt gun myself.

  9. Heath J Says:

How many do I need to reach Super Dooper gun owner status?

  10. Ellen Says:

Four handguns for two of us. Do we count the shortsword, the kris, or the daggers?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
