Police recall new Glock?

So reports the firearm blog:

The Firearm Blogs source within the department declined to be named and only spoke on the condition of anonymity about the problems. Our source stated that the slides were falling off during dry fire training due to a potential issue with the recoil spring assembly and/or the slide stop. IMPD has recalled all issued Glock 17Ms to include the one that TFB was leaked photos of due to the problem.

I’m not sure those would be the sources of this type of issue.

And, also, really, guys, this story is not “breaking”.

What in heaven’s name? The slide was falling off by pulling the trigger on a cocked yet unloaded handgun? What? Somebody explain please.

  2. McThag Says:

The take-down latch is pinched between the barrel and the recoil spring. If the recoil spring isn’t expanding to full length and the latch’s spring isn’t holding it all the way up then the latch can fall, letting the slide go forward like you’d taken it apart.

With the latch unlatched, the only thing holding the slide on would be the sear and striker.

McThag has it. When I was young and new at it, now that you mention it, I recall dropping my Glock barrel/slide assembly on the floor by dry firing the gun without having completely assembled it. Release the striker with the muzzle pointed downward and the thing just slides right off. It happened more than once before I understood how it works, there was nothing wrong with the gun in that particular case.

    Ah, thanks.

Schlocks: is there anything they can’t do?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
