    Remember, the NFA was originally a $1000 handgun tax.

    That’s why we have such creatures as short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns, because congresscritters knew the first thing that would happen would have been Colt putting easily removable stocks on the 1911 and calling it a rifle.

    Of course the NFA was short-lived because the Supreme Court ruled a tax on an enumerated right to be unconsti…..oh wait it actually went the other way.

    If Miller were read correctly the very next move should have been for a test case to get busted with a BAR or Colt Potato Digger, but we didn’t have an SAF back then.

    There’s that Chilling Effect, again, on the exercise of a constitutionally enumerated right.

    The fact that such a thing has been tolerated since 1934 doesn’t make it any less criminal. On the contrary, it adds to the list of insults, abuses and usurpations.
