Caring for our veterans

The Gun Shots:

The VA has reportedly declared 260,381 veterans with fiduciary trustees to the background check system as mentally defective. According to the Congressional Research Service, more than 99 percent of all names reported to NICS as mental defective are provided by the VA.

This seems like a very big deal.

And they wonder why vets avoid the VA like the plague when it comes to mental health issues.

As if I needed another reason to steer clear of the VA. Went to one of their facilities once after the Gulf War. Left there swearing to never return, ever.

When the VA is your only option, you can be in trouble. Recently they passed a provision that allows you to go outside of the VA if you cannot get an appointment within 30 days. In the past it was not unusual to go 4 to 6 months to be seen. I use them for eye glasses, hearing aids, prescriptions and second oppinons when needed.

But when it comes to mental health, its a double edged sword. There is a lot of vets that you don’t want to have carrying a firearm. But I also know that they can just add names to the list with no oversight.

You should know the game by now. The VA is never the “only option”. There are lots of people willing to help out.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
