Questionable ideas for guns
I missed one. Apparently, someone who doesn’t know a thing about guns and their functionality thinks it would be a good idea for police to keep a blank in the chamber. Ugh.

Probably thinks blanks are not dangerous. There is a dead tv actor who begs to differ. He blew a fragment of his skull through his brain, goofing off with a handgun (.44 mag revolver, I think) between filming scenes on his show. Sad thing was he was imitating a scene from a cop show (Hill Street Blues?), where a cop swaps a blank into a LT’s gun, thinking he might attempt suicide. The next show had the LT with a bandage over his temple, intimating that there was no real damage done.
I would think most cops would know better than to aim at that area of the head, but what do actors and writers know?
I was told by a friend, who had been a deputy, that rifles with blanks are spectacularly effective at suicide use.

Well, it wouldn’t do much to protect the cop, but it might make things a little safer for the rest of us. And our dogs.

Since a blank is not pushing a projectile down the barrel, they often do not have sufficient force to cycle an automatic pistol or rifle properly.
The military had us screw in those blank firing adapters to up the pressure when firing M16s with blanks. Was still constantly having to clear feed-jams / failures.
So good chance a cop’s blank goes “bang” then he has a jammed pistol.

The Chicago Tribune? You linked to Ayoob, but the source of stupidity about firearms use is actually CHI-FREAKIN’-CA-FREAKIN’-G0! Why am I not surprised?
I once discovered a professor friend from Chi-town, then living in Texas, illegally carried a Taurus pocket .22LR, for the purpose of “making a noise” to scare any attacking mugger, and had done so since moving to Chicago decades earlier. I didn’t even bother discussing any of the possible problems this might cause him.
Chicago! They should have stopped building when the slaughterhouses for the cattle were completed.

With blanks chambered at least the cops will be a lot less likely to injure innocent people anymore.
