Donald Trump on gun control

He’s been talking a good game supporting gun rights here recently. But that hasn’t always been the case:

I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.

Like other issues he’s opined on in the past, you have to wonder if he’s sincere or if he’s pandering.

    No, you don’t.

He’s applying for the job of politician, so assume he’s a lying sack of crap.

And I used to be a Jimmy Carter supporter. Intelligent people learn and change when presented with logic, reason, and hard facts.

    Trump/Cruz ’16

Pandering. And he will pander again in the general election if he’s nominated but to the other side. They all do it. They go hard right or hard left in the primary; swing back to the middle in the general; and do what Goldman Sachs tells them when they’re elected.

  4. Mike V. Says:

I’d feel alot better about him if I didn’t think he’s pandering his butt off. I’m scared what he said then is how he really feels.

    Say Unc,

Didn’t you use to carry a Glock? Were you just pandering or did something change your opinion about what you carry? Myself, I have always been right. Since birth nothing has made me form a different opinion. Just stirring the pot to the right.

Well, here’s the thing. If the GOPe gets its way you’ll have 12-20 million new citizens, mostly from socialist or big-government countries and used to that level of service, and almost all of which will vote Democratic (the best ever split of Hispanics for a Republican candidate was for Reagan, and was still 75% Democrat).
Which means, the election after you get a Amnesty president (or even a President who isn’t interested on secure borders and will allow amnesty to slide by to get his pet objective passed, like Reagan and Bush did) you get a permanent Democrat voting majority. All the purple states turn blue, the light-blue states become as solid as California, and many of the red states turn purple at best.

At that point, what happens to your Second Amendment rights? Once the gun-grabbers have an unbreakable, PERMANENT majority in the House and the Senate, and a total electoral lock on the Presidency, and can appoint whatever judges they want?

Now remind me: Which candidate made border security a topic? And which ones were weeks-even months- behind on making any positive statement at all?

Laugh at Trump if you want to, but if you like your rights at all you’d better be laughing on your way to vote for him.

JTC, me too. I voted for Carter in 1976. i grew up in a Democratic family in Tennessee. Also, many Democrats back in 60’sand 70’s were classical liberals who generally supported the rule of law and Bill of Rights. But now, most Democrats are authoritarian leftists. Also Republicans are generally that way. Richard Nixon was a proponent of gun control. Reagan also signed some reactionary gun control as California Gov. Both Bush’s were for gun control. George W. Bush supported the AWB. BUt I don’t recall any of them openly campaigning for gun rights like Trump, Cruz and Rand Paul, just the typical “I support the 2nd Amendment.”

  8. Lyle Says:

Trump supported the DREAM Act, DaveP. He wouldn’t know sincerity if it smacked him in the face. He’d perceive it as weakness.

He also supported TARP and the subsequent bailouts, speaks highly of taxation to create government jobs and loves eminent domain.

But never mind any of that. You like him because he looks strong so you’ll support him. We never learn. This exact thing has happened over and over. Remember Arnold Schwarzenegger’s campaign for governor? Yeah, when he got into office everything changed and he went straight to complaining about conservatives and how he was for “Da Peep’l” (meaning conservatives aren’t).

Or maybe you don’t remember any of that. It doesn’t matter. We never learn no matter how much evidence is placed in front of us, because we’re not driven by principles and so we can’t see. We’re driven by emotions and the desire to “win”.

    And that’s how we’re manipulated.

Trump is a screaming Progressive, through and through, and a narcissist, but you’ll have to see him office before you’ll believe it. Like MaCain he’ll get pissed off at you, lash out and tell you you’re a dope. After you’ve elected him of course.

    Just remember; you were warned.

  9. DaveP. Says:

Poor Lyle. The battered wife shelter must’ve turned him away again

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
