Immigrants and guns

UK citizen is suing the Honolulu police department for depriving him of his right to arms:

A United Kingdom citizen who is a legal permanent resident of the United States alleges in a lawsuit that the Honolulu Police Department discriminates against non-U.S. citizens by making it difficult for them to obtain firearm permits.

Hawaii has some of the strongest gun laws in the nation. Hawaii is the only state that requires firearms to be registered at a statewide level, which is done through county police departments. Hawaii’s permit allows someone to purchase a firearm, transport it to limited places such as a shooting range or gunsmith, or use it for hunting.

Hawaii only granted permits to U.S. citizens until a federal judge in Honolulu last year ruled that’s unconstitutional.

The department is trying to get around that ruling by verbally requiring those with green cards to obtain additional clearance from their countries of citizenship, said the lawsuit filed last week in federal court in Honolulu.

Hawaii doesn’t have a stand to leg on (sic). All this case illustrates is the patently illegal extremes fascists will go to.

Hawaii is the only state that requires firearms to be registered at a statewide level

As a Massachusetts resident I take issue with this statement. All firearm transactions (whether private sale or through an FFL) are reported in great detail to the Commonwealth. While permits may be issued with the approval of the local police department, the process still involves the Department of Criminal Justice Information Service at the state level as well.

There’s hope when deep blue MA & Boston lost similar lawsuits.

The first eliminated that state’s unconstitutional practice of restricting resident aliens fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms.

The second against the City of Boston removed the ability of local police departments to require nonstandard/additional identification & paperwork for permanent legal residents when applying for permits.

I second Windways in taking issue.

NJ is the same way (all firearms registered at state level) Handgun purchase permit and white long-gun purchase forms both state “… and form of registration …” – whether through FFL or private sales.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
