Blasphemer!

Robb: This is a story where an armed teacher would have made things much, much worse

While I buy his larger point, I don’t know that that is necessarily true. If she had been armed, it may have come to it. But people with guns can still talk to people without pulling their weapons.

For some reason he assumes that an armed teacher would not have given any thought or sought any training on handling situations such as a student with a gun (in hand) in crowded room.

Armed or not, such situations are best handled by talking. Even disarming moves are dangerous since the gun can still discharge and the move is likely to sweep some in the crowd. On the other hand, if the student goes past brandishing to killing, then an armed teacher can stop the carnage quickly, even if wounded and unable to grapple.

I’m not uber tactical. I go to the range, and I have taken the required training for Texas CHL. To me, being armed gives me more options if faced with a life threatening situation. Despite what many think, deadly force would be my last option. Not to say a situation couldn’t take me to that option immediately; some scenarios would, but given my druthers, I would rather not shoot somebody.

I’d be willing to wager most concealed carry folks are of the same mind, so a concealed weapon wouldn’t, in my mind, equal a kid being shot in the described situation. Not to say it couldn’t happen, but I would still feel my child safer with some armed staff at the school.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
