Blast deflector

My AR pistols are very loud. So loud, sometimes, they’re unpleasant to shoot. Well, there’s a cure for that:

Anyone running a short barrel AR can tell you that the muzzle blast can be overwhelming especially if shooting indoors. Yankee Hill Machine is offering a QD blast deflector that is designed to redirect the blast forward, away from the shooter.

Second pic at the link. Anybody else think the device isn’t mounted straight on the barrel?

  2. irright Says:

That second pic is there to show how it is removed.

  3. Pete Says:

    You blast it off?

  4. MrSatyre Says:

They’re called LOUDeners. Simply redirecting the blast doesn’t really reduce the volume. I’ve tried dozens of variations of a theme, and everyone thinks I’m shooting a .50 instead of a 5.56.

  5. wizardpc Says:

$79 for the blast deflector and another $90 for the muzzle device that you have to attach it to.

Levang Linear Compensator. $29.99. You’re welcome.

I wonder if the muzzle device threads will fit an oil filter??

They’re only six months late to the party…

Does all the same work for less than half the cost, though it doesn’t look as cool, I suppose.

  9. Linoge Says:

Sorry, “does all the same work” if you don’t already have a YHM suppressor, or plan on getting one.

+1 for Critter and the Levang. I put one on my pistol and it was a noticeable improvement.

I have a Kineti-Tech on a 556 and a 300blackout, they work pretty good. Have the proper threads as well.

Given the reduced velocity of the 556 in a short barrel and the obvious problems with noise, ergos, cycling, etc., why not use another weapon with a barrel length suited to the round?

Good question, but there are plausible answers to it. Magazine and ammo interchangeability and manual of arms commonality come to mind. Reliability could be dealt with by adding a gas booster I suppose– Russians figured that one out long ago with the AKS-74U and other shorty AKs. I do have to wonder how much a super short AR buys you, especially when you’re adding length and bulk with a blast deflector and etc., i.e. you shorten it way down and then have to hang some crap on the end. Whatever works I guess.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
