HBO wants athlete to remove ammo logo
NSSF:
Now, as he prepares for his biggest fight to-date, and first in Las Vegas, his sponsors have told NSSF that HBO is demanding Kovalev remove the logo of Tulammo USA, a Round Rock, Texas-based ammo manufacturing company, from his boxing trunks. Kovalev has not made a public response, but his relationship with the company is a close one. The fighter appeared at Tulammos SHOT Show booth this past January.

To pile on then;
We’re selling the spectacle of two guys beating each other up for money and entertainment, so we can’t allow a symbol of the defense of innocents against bullies. It’s consistent when you look at it like that.

As I said at Instapundit, I suspect this has much less to do with guns and ammo (though, of course, HBO is a bunch of gun banning bigots) and far more to do with the networks control of who can advertise in its exclkusive productions. Reading about this, it sounds like Tula has a contract with the boxer, but not with HBO who holds exclusive rights to broadcast the event. I”m pretty sure that if they paid HBO or the Boxing Promotoer, or whoever it was controlled sponsorship appearances during the broadcast, this wouldn’t be an issue. But I imagine to do so is probably more than Tula wants to pay. Otherwise, why wouldn’t everyone – from Budweiser to Ford to BMW to whoever simply contract directly with the boxers and avoid having to negotiate with HBO?

Never mind, looks like HBO has backed down (and at least in this story it sounds like HBO allowed him to wear them in his previous fight).
