Why I worry about the future

A grown adult, professional, educated man is scared of a fire extinguisher. I shit you not. The one time in my life I had to use one, I was glad I had it. And after I successfully used it I was all like “that was cool”. Some folks can’t handle responsibility. If I put a gun in his hands, would he shit his pants? He needs an assault extinguisher.

I am not surprised. Here is an unrelated story that illustrates why. I work as an assistant manager at a convenience store and the sheer number of people who don’t know how to pump their own gas is amazing. Every shift multiple people will pick it up and set it back down, which resets the pump and then wonder why they can’t get their gas when they pick up the nozzle again. I had a lady do this four times in a row which required me to reset the prepay that number of times. Of course they blame the cashiers for this.
Another true story of incompetence. Two grown ass men couldn’t figure out how to pump their gas one day. They actually came back in and got one of my cashiers to do it for them. A 20 year old woman. Pumping their gas like an old fashioned full service gas station attendant. Because not one, but two grown men couldn’t figure out how to pick up a nozzle and hit one button.
Literally nothing will surprise me after seeing that.

That was quite funny. My first professional job was at a shipyard that worked on Nuclear subs(portsmouth). My group received fire extinguisher training every year. So we all got to play with all kinds of fire extinguishers, except for the PKP type (which is basically quite nasty to be around afterwards, but is better than burning to death).

I used to get at the end of the line for the practical portion of the training. Got to play around with a lot more of the equipment.

Never really understood why people are afraid of them. It’s not like it’s a rocket engine. Just compressed gas and something to put out the flames. That training was fun.

    Re: Dave

Every gas pump I’ve encountered has operating instructions posted on it. Is this akin to “couldn’t pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom of the heel”?

There’s instructions on the fire extinguishers I carry in cars and have at home. Can’t LibCong read?

I’ve used a fire extinguisher a couple times, twice to put out car-fires – one was my own car and all my stuff.
I weep for the future but now that I’ve moved up-country I see much more capable people and youths than those in the exurbs. Nobody has their pants sagging at ass-level here.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
