XM1 Modular Handgun System

Three contenders for the contract that will never be. Via TBolt who suggests a 1911.

I do NOT! It’s way too expensive to justify as a duty weapon. And that’s for upkeep after the sale.

Give them a choice of two or three calibers and let them bring their own? Tell them which calibers will be supported with regular supply, and let them bring their own regardless? If they break, let their families send them new ones? Naw; too practical? The concept of calling up the militia it seems has long been abandoned.

I’d want to bring my own, but since I’m far too old and wouldn’t know the answer to “Why?” anyway, it’s a moot point.

Better question; what’s the objective? What would “victory” look like to the current Commander in Chief? Does anyone even want to contemplate that?

The contract that will never be is right. The Army has written even more crazy ass requirements than usual into this mess.

90% more chance of hitting a 4-inch circle at 50 meters? For Soldiers who are trained to shoot rifles and never practice with pistols? More “lethal” than 9mm ball?

Sounds like they are making the case for a smaller carbine, submachine gun, or PDW for officers, tankers, truck drivers, etc… Maybe a 9mm subgun or something like the P90.

When I was in the Gulf, the Saudi officers were carrying MP5s. Our officers and senior NCOs were quite envious since they were carrying useless M9s on a battlefield with many miles of visibility. Most picked up an M16 or AK along the way.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
