The ironically named Josh Earnest

Asked if any of the “common sense” gun control measures proposed by the president would have prevented the Charleston shooting, he replies with hurr-durr.

“There is no piece of legislation that Congress can pass and that the president can sign into law that will eliminate every instance of gun violence in this country. But if there is legislation that Congress can pass that would even slightly reduce the number of incidents of gun violence in this country, then why on earth wouldn’t they sign it? Why on earth wouldn’t they pass it so the president could sign it?”

Boilerplate Dim policy right there…replace “gun violence” with…well, just about any damn thing, and the answer is always “legislation”. Efficacy? Pfft.

  2. Ron W Says:

Well, there is legislation that ” would even slightly reduce the number of incidents of gun violence” . Get rid of a common denominator in all of them which will also be in accordance with the Bill of Rights. REPEAL government imposed gun free zones! Include that in any “common sense” legislation and “pass it do the President can sign it.” If not, “whyon earth wouldn’t he sign it?”

  3. the pawnbroker Says:

Ron W, So…the only new legislation allowed would be legislation that effectively removes old legislation…

Sounds like a platform! Now we just need a candidate…

  4. Lyle Says:

“Efficacy” is irrelevant. Preventing crime is irrelevant. Our immediate physical safety is our responsibility as individuals. Securing our rights is our, and our government’s, responsibility.

To the extent that our “safety and security” is the government’s responsibility, it is the safety and security of our rights. When it comes to government, there is no other kind of safety and no other version of security.

No government ever tried to disarm the citizenry out of a sense of compassion.

  5. the pawnbroker Says:

Rights? I don’t need gov to secure what I was born with, or trust gov with the responsibility of protecting them, as it is gov in the guise of legislation that they need protecting from.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
