More gun control by executive action

The Hill:

The Justice Department plans to move forward this year with more than a dozen new gun-related regulations, according to list of rules the agency has proposed to enact before the end of the Obama administration.

The regulations range from new restrictions on high-powered pistols to gun storage requirements. Chief among them is a renewed effort to keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse.

Misdemeanor domestic violence? You’re banned from owning a gun.

Mentally unstable = ever been to a therapist.

Had a rough year and need to talk through some things? Prohibited person.

    Couples counseling? Prohibited person.

Mom sent you to someone to deal with your parents getting a divorce? Prohibited person.

  2. tincankilla Says:

worth consulting the DOJ’s definition here: http://www.justice.gov/ovw/domestic-violence

    this includes:

“Undermining an individual’s sense of self-worth and/or self-esteem is abusive.”

    “withholding one’s access to money”

“causing fear by intimidation; threatening physical harm to self”

note that alleged threats trigger misdemeanor charges.

Wizardpc, ever been to a bar? Then it’s double whammy. Talk to the bartender about your problems while partaking in a controlled substance.

  4. Billll Says:

So what’s a high-powered pistol? Anything that starts with a 4? Anything bigger than a .380? Anything that’s center fire?
Anything that starts with a 4 unless it has a bayonet lug?

  5. Robert Says:

I’ve been unable to find a list of these new regs, so wondering exactly what they are.

  6. JTC Says:

    To add to wizardpc’s list:

Pissed-off live-in knows how to hurt you ’cause she’s been taught by gov/media/antis (double redundant) that all it takes is a verbal claim.

Charges dropped or nolle prossed? It will still fuck you up and takes months and money to get your rights and your CWP/CCW back.

  7. Crotalus Says:

Misdemeanor domestic violence is already covered by the Lautenberg Amendment, isn’t it?

  8. Old NFO Says:

I want to see what the ‘new’ storage requirements are… That could be scary…

  9. wizardpc Says:

High powered pistol = AR Pistol. So, thanks to all those folks that posted their pistol vs rifle memes over the last two years.

  10. Jody Says:

As long as it is illegal for any person to own a firearm, it will eventually be illegal for everyone.

  11. Ron W Says:

    Right, Jody.

  12. RAH Says:

Wasn’t storage requirements declared unconstitutional in Heller?

  13. RAH Says:

As I suspected over 30 years ago that any doctor/ psych visit could lose gun rights.

  14. The_Jack Says:

Gee, nothing will destigmatize seeking mental health quite like the feds wanting to make anyone who sees a shrink into a literal second class citizen.

ONLY YOUR ENEMY WANTS YOU DISARMED

  16. Lyle Says:

“Misdemeanor domestic violence? You’re banned from owning a gun.”

Yeah, what happened to the Lautenberg thingy? A lot of cops and politicians were in violation of it, but maybe they just redefined the parameters. Or did they just stop talking about it?

Whatever. Progressive Republicans and Democrats will be Progressive Republicans and Democrats, until such time as they are stopped. What else is there to discuss regarding politics, really?

  17. Ron W Says:

Lyle, they always EXEMPT themselves from gun control laws, rules and regs, etc., so cops, feds and politicians get a pass and that in flagrant, in-your-face VIOLATION of “the equal protection of the laws”! Hey, isn’t that what criminals do?

  18. Sigivald Says:

Regulations without a basis in statute won’t stand a challenge, is the important thing to remember.

  19. JTC Says:

Sigivald, as to regulations *with or without* a basis in statute, I would reiterate my cautionary note above:

“Charges dropped or nolle prossed? It will still fuck you up and take months and money to get your rights and your CWP/CCW back”

That’s how gov works; regulation by intimidation.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
