Ammo then and now
Tam on ammo past an present. I do have to admit that it was only a few years ago or so that I finished off the last of my Black Talons. I kept them because they were neat. Then, one day, I was curious to see if they’d work in a new gun. They did.

I suspect both Black Talon and Hydra-Shok are more effective than RIP ammo.
I have a box of BT’s somewhere around here. Kept ’em for the same reason you did.
I have heard the Winchester SXT is the same as BT. Not sure if it is true, but the internet told me SXT stood for “Same eXact Thing”.

Remington golden saber is designed by the same guy who did the black talons. They work just as well, too.

Sort of. SXTs and Ranger-Ts all evolved from that point, and (as Critter noted) Remington’s BJHPs are a later design from the same dude.

I have more than a few Golden Sabers set back, but at this point, I think even they are out-dated.
Granted, a Pennsylvania Long Rifle is out-dated too, but will still kill you just as dead as before.

Yeah, there are definitely better-performing offerings out there these days. There are a couple Golden Saber loads left on DocGKR’s list, although I note the absence of any of the .45 offerings…

I still have a box of Black Talons.
For my .357 revolver, which doesn’t exactly need a lot of proof-of-function testing with new ammo or the like.
Not magic, by any means. I just don’t go through that kind of ammo rapidly.
(I also have a box of 9mm Golden Saber, I think, for the same reason.
When you don’t bother to shoot it, it sticks around, regardless of not thinking of it as talismanic or super effective.)

I keep the cylinder on my .357 loaded with the old B.A.T.S. rounds. Those have hollow copper-tube projectile with a tapered, sharp hollow tip and a gas check to keep the gas from passing through the projectile after the round is fired. Nice load for the house gun.
