Quote of the day

Sebastian:

Progressive Democrats are completely dependent on owning the black vote. They cant let any issue drive a wedge, and this one is now threatening to do that, so they need to bring their base back in line. The real solution for Democrats would be to abandon gun control, return to more traditional liberalism, and leave the progressive mouth foamers hung out to dry. But how many traditional liberals are left these days?

In the Democrat Party? I think they’ve all been purged. It’s pretty much all radical leftist/Progressive/Marxist/Communist/Alinskyite/Jihadist/Fascist now. Operation Mayhem. The question is whether there are any classical liberals in the Republican Party, and the answer may be around three or four classic liberals out of hundreds of Progressives.

But maybe we stumble on words. A “traditional liberal” could be something completely different from a “classic liberal”, the latter being one who understands and advocates liberty as the Founders understood it. Any other kind of “liberal” is a godamned phoney.

    Well-said, Lyle.
Most of the “classical liberals” now are basically libertarians. Paradoxically, one is basically a classical liberal if they are conservative of the Constitution and ALL of the Bill of Rights. The establishments of both major parties generally shun this view. The supposed ” big tent” Republicans mostly disdain them, but expect them to line up and vote for them on Election Day, but no almost nothing to get their and my votes.

I have often wondered if the Tea Party wouldn’t find more results by turning their attentions to the Democratic Party. The Republicans seem to pay lip service to get elected then go back to business as usual.

i think of gun control as small-c conservative – that is, wealthy liberals who accept gross inequality and want to preserve their gentry status while telling the unenlightened how to live their lives in more socially acceptable ways. I think of progressives as working people with few options who want to change how power relations in society work, as they are subject to the whims of their bosses and liberal “reformers” who want to guide them to noble poverty.

like free speech, firearms are a tool of equality that put fear into those who prefer the status quo and so don’t like the idea of arming the poor and those who work for a living.

    Jay Dee,

In 2010, a Democrat, a Mark Clayton, won the U.S. Senate Democratic Primary in Tennessee. His views were basically those of the Tea Party and he was disavowed by the Tennessee Democratic Party. I voted for him in the General Election, but unfortunately most people “defaulted” to the current Republican Senator, Bob Corker, who is currently working on the side of the SECRET Obamatrade (TPP) Agreement and renewal of the unconstitutional Patriot Act.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
