Savannah, GA

Except for the occasional McStore, the downtown is quite lovely. And lively. I guess local people want Panera and a Starbucks.

I had a Sazerac. It was delicious. Note to self: get some absinthe.

Try to avoid any absinthe made in the Czech Republic, it tends to be far too bitter; stick to French or Swiss-made absinthe and you’ll have a good experience. The Wormwood Society is your best place to learn more about absinthe, as well as providing links to absinthe and accessories:

Found the bench where Forrest Gump sat, waiting for the bus?

You got the good picture of the dolphin. I used to work research ships. Actually been on cruises to find and tag dolphins. I have dozens of pictures of dolphin butts. A few whale butts. Unless you try to get a picture of a whale’s tail, then you get a picture of slightly disturbed water.

Watch out for those Sazerac’s, they bite back! 🙂

    Dear Uncle,

Have a great time. Savannah is beautiful this time of year.

    Peace, SYK

    P.S.
The hippies might like Old Fort Jackson or Fort Pulaski. Both have cannon firings, call ahead for Old Fort Jackson at 912-232-3945 for confirmed times (usually everyday at 11:00 and 2:00) and Fort Pulaski at 912-786-5787 (Saturday 11:00, 1:00. and 3:00)

Don’t leave there without visiting Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. Some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. But I’m a Yankee from PA. You southerners probably have what I would consider the best fried chicken on every corner.

Bonaventure Cemetary is very cool as well. Really old live oaks and grave stones. From the looks of one of the lighthouses in your photos, looks like you’ve already been to Tybee Island? Another cool stop.

Those were the highlights of my time in Savannah, in addition to the Anson Mills grits. Really nice place. And the southern hospitality was culture shock considering I live an hour from the Philly area.

    You have a great tan.

Shouldn’t the boy be reflexively punching the hippy?

One eyed lizzys on river Street is fantastic. I highly recommend the parmesan chicken chimichanga.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
