Speaking of scraping the bottom of the barrel

Anti-gun group sets up fake gun store to shame buyers:

Lamest thing I’ve seen.

Disabled comments too. Big shock. I am pretty sure setting up a gun store even a fake one requires a Federal FFL.

  2. Ish Says:

They opened a firearm retail business in New York City? Really? I would love to see the paperwork on that. Are New York state’s § 400 applications public record? The BATFE makes all FFLs available, if someone wants to comb through the records: https://www.atf.gov/content/firearms/firearms-industry/listing-FFLs

If they are so convinced by the righteousness of their cause, why lie?

  3. Ish Says:

At approximately 1:55, the “firearms dealer” begins to explain that the black rifle he has for sale used to belong to Nancy Lanza. I would have assumed that the weapons used in the Sandy Hook shootings would still be in police evidence in Connecticut or have been destroyed. However, since the rifle is apparently in the possession of this gun-control group, perhaps they would kindly produce the paperwork authenticating it’s transfer from Connecticut to New York? It might make a fine addition to a museum… They can authenticate its provenance, yes?

    Or are they lying?

One last thing: Richard Pyror’s ghost needs to sue these folks for plagarism: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sunsLde_ZWY

  5. garibaldi Says:

If those people are that scared by those stories, then they shouldn’t buy a firearm because they are not ready yet.

Far more children are killed every year in swimming pool accidents than in firearm accidents. Shall we ban swimming pools? If it saves the life of just one child, won’t it be worth it?

The simple fact is, freedom is dangerous but it beats the alternative.

    Blood Dance

  7. tincankilla Says:

got to hand it to them; pretty high quality propaganda.

would be awesome for the NRA to do a counter, showing awesome histories of guns.

  8. garibaldi Says:

Now that I think about it, I am calling BS. Those “customers” were paid actors. This supposedly was NYC, where getting a license to carry is next to impossible. So I’m supposed to believe that four brand new LTC holders just happened to wander in? I don’t know if there are four new LTC holders in the whole city right now…

  9. divemedic Says:

The revolver shown from 1:10 to looks pretty fake. It certainly isn’t a .22, as they claim. The rifles on the wall behind the counter are not legal in NY, thanks to the SAFE act. The Glock at 1:53 is also clearly fake.
The 2 pistols at 2:32 and at 2:34 both have the exact same tag, which reads:
“You never know when you’ll need a gun. That’s why this compact and easy-to-use pistol is perfect for those unexpected situations. Like when Thomas Gilbert, Jr. had his allowance unexpectedly cut by $700, so he took his father’s gun and used it to kill him.”
The problem is that the gun was illegally owned by the killer, it never belonged to the father. At the killer’s apartment, the police found a credit card skimming machine and credit card blanks. He is also the lead suspect in an arson case, and was previously arrested for domestic violence. In other words, a violent criminal. There was a warrant out for his arrest at the time of the killing.
The Glock at 2:33 is a fake. Many of the markings that should be on the pistol are absent.

In other words, most of the story behind those pistols is a fabrication.
The video claims that there are ‘hundreds of guns’ in the store, but even if every gun shown were real, there are not even 40 guns in that store.

If you have to lie and dance in the blood of others to invoke an emotional response in order to make your point, it becomes obvious that facts and logic are not on your side.
There were so many obvious fakes here, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out the customers were all paid actors.

  10. Justaguy Says:

That is some seriously edited shit right there, notice the one guy who was pro 2A, he looks like he is gonna bitch slap the camera guy.

The real reactions likely went something like “Fuck you man what the fuck is this bullshit, i’m just trying to buy a fucking gun and your trying to drop some guilt on me, dude go fuck yourself.”

Keep spending your dollars on shit like this, its good stuff, and it keeps your dollars from being spent on shit that matters

  11. JTC Says:

Desperation. Pretty slick though, and not cheap to set up and produce. Thing is, how is it promoted and distributed? Are we doing it for them? I’m guessing there are more views by pros than antis, pissing us off and riling us up…and reposting it. In which case, it’s working, and we’re helping.

  12. rickn8or Says:

JTC, don’t you wonder about the horrible fate suffered by all those guns after taping was complete?

  13. Like I Says:

Wow, an UZI smg? In NY? Sounds legit.

  14. Like I Says:

I downloaded the March 2015 ATF FFL list for NY (see Ish’s post). I searched by the gun store name, and also the address (149). Nothing came up on the list.

  15. rickn8or Says:

Like I, you mean this might be a (gasp!) fake store, not even in NYC at all??

  16. Cargosquid Says:

They blocked comments on the video…but the comments at discussion over at their channel seem to be open.

    They are getting hammered.

  17. Ish Says:

Having re-rewatched the video, I’m inclined to believe these are all air soft replicas… And not particularly high-end models like Tokyo Mauri at that. The footage is incredibly grainy, for that faux hidden camera footage feel, so it’s hard to be 100% certain.

But given the wide variety of Illegal-in-New-York models, the total lack of security in the store*, and the other holes in the story… I’m calling yet another lie.

    * Seriously; I’ve never seen a jewelry shop or a higher in pawn shop in NUC that doesn’t have that sort of “air lock” electronic buzzer entryway you see so often. This store doesn’t even appear to have the roll-up mesh screen that every gorram convenience store in the city has. Plus, none of the “firearms” have trigger locks, the “rifles” aren’t locked to the wall, most appear to have magazines in place… Most VFW Hall gun show tables have better security.

  18. Ron W Says:

Everything the “gunstore salesman” said could be applied to government’s hired guns. But I suppose this anti-gun group probably supports the usual exemption in gun laws for them.

  19. Knob Creeker Says:

I went to NYC in 2008 and actually found a real gun shop in little Italy, John Jovino Gun Shop . It was about the size of the one in the fake video, but it was mostly gear & clothing with few firearms. I assumed it was more of a shop catering to law enforcement than the general public.

The Richard Pryor clip was amusing, given that he was an admitted heavy drug user & often in serious legal trouble. Notice that Robin Williams voice was also present in the clip, another admitted drug abuser who ultimately took his own life. I don’t believe either one could have legally owned a firearm.

  20. Ish Says:

I’ve always wanted to take that Pryor sketch and replace the voice overs. Have the double barrel shotgun describe how it’s owner used it to fend off the Klan night riders, have the hunting rifle take with pride about feeding it’s family during the Depression, the derringer could talk about scaring off a potential rapist…

Pryor’s sketch also doesn’t lie to the viewer. Oh, it’s biased as hell, but it is honest about being a fiction. No one tuned into his show expecting a documentary. This gun control propaganda video is full of misleading and outright false claims… Why do they have to lie?

  21. Sigivald Says:

I am pretty sure setting up a gun store even a fake one requires a Federal FFL.

    Nope.

Not-selling guns does not make you “in the business of selling firearms”.

It makes you in the not-business of not-selling them.

(That assumes the presence of real firearms, of course – I’m sure Ish is correct and not one of those was an actual firearm.)

  22. Shrimp Says:

I am sure that the shotgun was a fake (airsoft?), or broken. He cocks it, but the action doesn’t move at all (2:39). Looks like an airsoft version of the 870, but I can’t tell what brand. I’d wager not a single gun there was real. But, I’d also wager the “customers” weren’t either.

If the loopnet info I found is accurate, they rented this retail space some time between September and November last year, which fits with the light jackets, long sleeves and long pants worn in the video. The place has since be rented at least once, or possibly twice since then.

149 Orchard St, NY, NY 10002 is the address of the retail unit they rented. I’m curious if a craiglist search/request/ad would find the actors involved. I’m sure I’ve seen the guy @ 2:25 in another video, but I’m not sure what it was.

Also, you can check out the full-on stupid on display if you go to the “gun store” website (the address is on the window at about the 0:30 mark): gwhgunshop.com

warning–You’ll want brain-bleach and eye wash and maybe a shower to wash off the stupid.

  23. JTC Says:

Ish 10:28, I loved the idea of doing this in opposite -an anti-anti gun shop- so much that I actually did it of a fashion for many years.

Customers, mostly ladies, who came in to look at jewelry, etc. and recoiled (heh) from the gun case? Given a chance I would tell them nothing to be afraid of, it’s just a tool…a tool that won our independence, the frontier, world wars, and defended many innocents -like her- from evil doers who hope her fear of guns will prevent her from having one so they can have their way with her and her loved ones.

I actually converted quite a few, and gave many more pause to consider the flip-side of the anti BS they’d been lapping up their whole lives.

Of course this was FL not NY; there they’d probably find a way to charge you with promoting terrorism or some such shit even if you only had props in the store.

  24. Metulj Says:

I am just here for the ignorance of NYC geography. Anyhow, if anybody here thinks this wasn’t cleared through the NYPD and the City, there is a bridge around the way I will sell you. Also, the “joke” seems to be lost on people here. Some of you may own historic weapons. Maybe it was a revolver reputedly owned by a Wild West gunslinger or a rifle reputedly owned by someone like George Nelson or George “Machine Gun Kelly” Barnes. Well, what makes them special is that in both cases, they were used to commit criminal acts. What is mystifying to non-gun people is why this is so interesting to some people, especially the idea that one can identify with owning a weapon that was used in a mass killing.

  25. SPQR Says:

This is the kind of stupid stunt you would expect the utterly incompetent loony groups like PETA to pull.

  26. Shrimp Says:

“Anyhow, if anybody here thinks this wasn’t cleared through the NYPD and the City, there is a bridge around the way I will sell you.”

Did I miss someone saying that in the comments? That it happened in NYC isn’t in dispute, in my opinion. Given that, and that this group is no doubt funded by Bloomberg, I don’t doubt that he greased any skids necessary to put up their toy gun shop. Yes, the police would have been made aware of it. Yes, the city would have been made aware of it. And likely, SAG-AFTRA, too, when they did their casting call.

And the “joke” was completely lost on me. I don’t collect any sort of memorabilia, nor do I know anyone that does (at least WRT firearm memorabilia). I know quite a few people who collect other sorts of memorabilia, but the two don’t meet on a Venn diagram in my circle.

  27. Ish Says:

    >>> Some of you may own historic weapons. Maybe it was a revolver reputedly owned by a Wild West gunslinger or a rifle reputedly owned by someone like George Nelson or George “Machine Gun Kelly” Barnes. <<>> I am just here for the ignorance of NYC geography. <<<
Shockingly as this may come to you, most people west of Hoboken don't give half a thought to the geography of New York City. It's an overpriced, overhyped, overly insular, over populated pimple on the rump of New England.

Mind you, since half my in-laws live there and/or study at yeshivot there, I'm forced to know way to much about the gorram place. I still don't care.

  28. Ish Says:

    >>> Some of you may own historic weapons. Maybe it was a revolver reputedly owned by a Wild West gunslinger or a rifle reputedly owned by someone like George Nelson or George “Machine Gun Kelly” Barnes. <<

Scroll up to Post #3, I raised this exact issue. If they are truly selling as notable a historic firearm as Adam Lanza's rifle, then they should be able to document its provenance: the transfer from Connecticut to New York; the special legal authorization to sell a forearm banned under the NYSAFE Act; the New York State application to open a firearms store; the FFL issued to them by the BATFE.

If that isn't a real firearm, they lied.
If that isn't Adam Lanza's actual rifle, they lied.
If those are actors in a fictional scene, they lied.
If that is a real firearm and they don't have licenses to sell it, they're criminals AND liars.
If that is a real firearm, but it isn't Lanza's, they're liars and criminals… It's called "fraud," even in New York City.

If their cause is so righteous, why do they need to lie?

  29. TS Says:

It’s also illegal to sell toy/replica guns without an orange tip (or equivalent) in NYC. There is an exemption for making movies, so if this is all staged it’s probably cool.

Also, I wonder what the reaction would be from the left if a conservative Christian organization set up a fake Planned Parenthood in order to shame pregnant women. Mass aneurisms even?

  30. Mike Says:

Well, I’m convinced. I now realize guns serve no purpose except to make you want to kill yourself and others, especially children. I’ll be calling the proper authorities later today to remove these dangerous things from my house. Thanks for saving my life, Bloomberg!

  31. dustydog Says:

Someone should do this with engagement rings.

  32. milquetoast Says:

Don’t forget that even prop guns require a permit in New York City.

  33. Jeff From DC Says:

I don’t buy the reactions as genuine-it’s scripted. Every answer to a question is oddly phrased or paused. Especially the protection lady. I used to work in a gun store in my mispent youth, and even first time buyers, finger fuqers, and looky loos don’t act that off. That was somebody’s interpretation of how first time gun buyers act. I don’t own a high end watch, but if I went into a watch store I wouldn’t say, “A Ro-lex? I think I may have heard of that company. They make what you call watt-chez?” Just terrible performance art.

Guns didn’t look real, and I don’t think they were actually selling them, so they could get around the orange tip. Or maybe they didn’t even worry about laws. Anti-gun people are ofter like that.

Probably had to have an NYPD guard detail outside as well.

  34. Jeff From DC Says:

Why’d they edit the scene out where Mark Gifford came in and attempted to buy the inventory?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
