Training

This looks like it can get you killed:

Officers should “take a deep breath’’—and close their eyes—when dealing with angry people, according to the NYPD’s new “retraining’’ program.

The potentially dangerous advice is part of a $35 million “smart policing’’ primer by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton that most of the officers who have gone through it say is completely useless.

“…most of the officers who have gone through it say is completely useless.”

Well, most of the officers are completely useless. But we knew that, didn’t we.

what a stupid program. police reform is much simpler: hire only 4-year accredited college grads, don’t hire combat veterans, don’t reward based on quotas, don’t train police to dominate situations, don’t allow police to define the world as threatening, arrest violent cops and demote those who don’t turn them in, and cut the budget in a stair-step 2 years after drops in crime rates.

Yeah, see; if someone felt the need to include the word “smart” in the name, it isn’t. If it were smart, it wouldn’t need the title.

Somebody’s gettin some kickbacks somewhere in that chain of events…

Why do we just instruct them to lower the blast shield and then stretch out with their feelings?

  6. Lyle Says:

Will we see that in drivers’ education soon? “If you find yourself in a tense situation on the road, just close your eyes, imagine you’re in a happy place…”

Same would work with soldiers on the battlefield too, I suppose. “If you find yourself in an ambush, just close your eyes, breathe deep, count to ten, and realize that there’s no situation you can’t simply meditate your way out of…click your heels together and say three times; ‘there’s no place like home’…”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
