How many magazines is enough?

More. At last count, I had 60 for the ARs. And 12 for the M&P. Mostly because I don’t like to spend valuable range time reloading magazines. I need to snag some more M&P mags. Let me know if you see any deals on them.

I am still trying to locate 15 round M&P 9mm magazines.

  2. rickn8or Says:

Of course. Because they’re no good after you’ve fired the bullets in them.

  3. Mike V. Says:

    Don’t the 9mm M&P mags hold 17 rounds?

  4. Mike V. Says:

Also, Brownells appears to have 17 round M&P 9mm mags in stock.

  5. TheOtherLarry Says:

If they don’t fit in your house you MIGHT have enough. Jus sayin.

  6. SPQR Says:

Alas Brownells won’t ship 17 rd mags to me.

Still hard to find real ones for the Sig 227. Three of them finally showed up here, and the state police are running 10s.

I keep finding boxes full of AR 30s, been mostly PMAGs lately.

So the linked blog is yet another place I’m seeing people jumping on the “don’t load a mag to max”, especially if it will be left for a long period of time.

Is this really that big of an issue?? I remember reading somewhere (wish I could remember where) some commentary provided by an engineer to would countering those arguments that high quality spring steel used by most reputable manufacturers don’t suffer from this “memory” or continual stress. It’s actually the cyclical stress over time that wear those spring out.

Anyone here feel qualified to speak to the matter more?

I currently keep AR mags loaded to the designed capacity. Same with carry gun, why would I carry less in my gun (which could go a few weeks without being unloaded) with less than the designed capacity?

  12. Tam Says:

I wouldn’t load GI alloy 30-rounder M16 mags to the max, mostly due to feed lip deformation issues over time and the difficulty in seating the mag easily on a closed bolt. Most good modern aftermarket AR mags remedy that and I have no problem putting 30 rounds in, say, a Magpul or HK mag.

    Pistol mags? Load ’em up.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
