Coat pocket guns

Caleb discusses them. I dunno, if I can wear a big coat, I can also strap a full sized auto loader on and wear it under the coat. But drawing it may be a difficult if I’m wearing a burka.

Also, kind of pondering a revolver because reasons. But then I talk myself out of it because then I’d have to hoard another caliber.

LW Commander in 38 Super under the coat. P238 in the coat pocket. So far, so good.

My bodyguard 380 works well in a coat pocket. Makes more sense for a lighter coat than some other options

What? You’ve never noticed how many women, uh, men, uh, people, uh, non-humans from outer space wear burkas and have their hands (1) in the sleeves (2)embedded deeply within the folds?

A slit here, a slit there, and you can fire through the garment . . .

What better politically-correct garment to wear to conceal your weapons?

“Hoard another caliber.” No you don’t. A Smith 940 J-frame revolver in 9mm has worked for me for 20+ years now. SP101s came in 9mm too. Or get a moonclip conversion to 9mm on that Airweight.

Ruger LCR now comes in 9mm, too.

The nice thing about a 5 shot .38SPL revolver is that practicing it by shooting a full load 100 times takes only about 1/3 the ammo of a Glock 19.

    Go for it.

I feel you on the hoarding another caliber. I found a marlin 45/70 lever action in stainless steel that i want really bad. But on top of the $800 price tag is the $30-40 a box of ammo, reloading dies, bullets, powder, primers, and bullet molds. Not to mention the new shoulder i would end up buying from shooting it alot.

Years ago I contemplated the same thing, Unc.

I decided on the 11-ounce S&W 340PD with a green HiViz front sight and I’ve never regretted it.

I view the little lightweight .357 snubbie as a point and shoot “up close” defense weapon.

Not a range gun, though, for sure. Hence hoarding ammo shouldn’t be an issue.

Drawing from under the coat is not easy if the coat is closed (buttoned or zipped), hence the coat-pocket gun. When I worked in serious snow country I carried a 3-inch Model 65 or Speed-Six in the outside pocket of my M-65 or parka, and it worked well. I never had to try to get to the gun under my coat.

“Another” caliber? No, it just gives a reason to find a Fitz’d Model 1917 (Colt or S&W, pick your poison). (Beater Brazilian-contract S&Ws may be found relatively cheaply, and are common enough to be chopped without collector aneurysm.)

The “snubbie” in 38 I term a “Rover.”
As in, it can “rove” from coat pocket to other pockets as need be.
    Smith Airweights are handy.

    However…
    A Smith 940?

    Really?

Last one I saw in the wild had a sticker price of the same number.

Ruger LCR in 9mm uses Moon Clips, as does the SP-101 in the same, though at least its in current production. Unlike the Smith and SP-101, you could likely get two of the LCR’s for what one of the Smith 940 costs.

Next week he’ll have a post on how stupid coat-pocket carry is.

  13. Beaumont Says:

Currently produced snubby revolvers are available in 9mm & .40 from at least three manufacturers, to the best of my knowledge. Some may be available in .45 as well, but you’re not interested.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
