A right delayed is a right denied

In Cali, some arbitrary number of days waiting period was struck down. If it can be 10, why not 1,000?

You know the answer to that is always “We’ll meet half way” so make it 500 and everybody comes away saying they “got something” in negotiations. Then we’ll do it again next year and it’ll be 750 days, etc. Once we surpass 1,000, we’ll say that “It just isn’t working” and call for far more restriction on the right for innocents to defend themselves, which of course won’t “work” either, and so we’ll demand more insanity and coercion.

DC also has a 10 day waiting period. But between ordering, buying, shipping, receiving, and registering, it is usually eaten up by the myriad other hurdles.

I recall the 1992 LA riots, and the brief news item showing a line of customers going into a gun store, with the reporter interviewing a befuddled non-customer who had just learned that he could not buy a gun without the 10 day wait.

Except for the looting, rioting, murder and mayhem, it was funny.

Makes sense. SCOTUS has recognized the 2A as a fundamental right. In order to regulate a fundamental right, the regulation must further an important government interest. I don’t see how the government can say that delaying and armed citizen from becoming even more armed (armed-er? HA!) is furthering an important government interest.

I haven’t been following this case, so I don’t know if that was the tact that the judge took in his decision, but it sure makes sense to me.

Hawaii has a 14 to 21 day waiting period in order to receive your “permit to acquire a handgun”. Last legislative session there was a bill to eliminate that waiting period requirement for people already owning a firearm. It never even got a hearing in committee, much less a vote. They don’t need no stinking logic or evidence.

The current billionaire-funded bill in Washington state has provisions that the waiting period can be extended to 60 days in certain circumstances (not a resident for 90 days, etc.).

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
