Man. If only we had laws on the books to keep people that have been committed to mental institutions from buying firearms.

    Wait.

  2. Paul Says:

Will there be any calls for waiting periods for ropes when such a person buys rope and hangs themselves?

Or if they buy Tylenol and overdose?

Or buy a razor blades and slit their wrist?

  3. Jake Says:

Canthros: It was a voluntary commitment. IIRC, that means there would have been no legal restriction on her buying a firearm.

    Here we are. It’s defined by 27 C.F.R. § 478.11

Committed to a mental institution. A formal commitment of a person to a mental institution by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority. The term includes a commitment to a mental institution involuntarily. The term includes commitment for mental defectiveness or mental illness. It also includes commitments for other reasons, such as for drug use. The term does not include a person in a mental institution for observation or a voluntary admission to a mental institution.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
