Joe the plumber is 100% correct

He says: your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights

And that is absolutely correct. I think he maybe needed to market the idea better. But he probably thought he was speaking to adults.

Yep. Never assume you’re speaking to adults.

  2. deadcenter Says:

Impossible to market it better. Reading the quote in context is critical but there is no way anyone on the gun control side will provide that context.

  3. Linoge Says:

No matter how he said it, someone was going to be pissed especially since the “gun control” movement requires dead children to be anywhere near political relevant.

He was cutting into their revenue stream. One cannot have that.

Glad somebody is pushing back against the emotional rhetoric. I would prefer, however, that we frame the argument from a self defense angle, rather than a constitutional right. Something along the lines of:

“your right to feel safe/(whatever) doesn’t trump my right to defend myself with the most efficient and effective means possible.”

I think it’s much more difficult for gun grabbers to develop a reasonable argument against the right of self defense than it is for them to argue against an ambiguous (in their estimation) enumerated right, especially to those who think that rights come from governments and documents, rather than the natural rights of man.

  6. Towerclimber37 Says:

Your mom: it won’t matter. the left doesn’t care about your ability to defend yourself or your loved ones.
If they are willing to use children killed in gun free zones as a political prop to achieve disarmament, they won’t hesitate to dismiss your natural right to self defense no matter what the federalist papers say.

the 2nd amendment is their only bar to total domination through fiat and regulation. without that governor on an already out of control fed, I’d bet we would see much worse.

  7. Drake Says:

I have long held to this sentiment. Our rights were paid for in blood at places like Saratoga and Monmouth. Those deaths should have meaning too, not just those used by the left after a lunatic committs an atrocity. Of course, today’s pantshitting leftists couldn’t tell the difference between Saratoga or Monmouth from the next big cell phone name. Feh.

  8. Tx_teacher Says:

There really isn’t any point talking to histrionic people when they are histrionic, especially people who would burn every right there is, especially the ones they don’t utilize, IF IT SAVES THE LIFE OF JUST ONE CHILD!!!!11one!

This is true of gun control emoters, #yesallwomen tweeters, and nearly every sort of activist and wallower in grievance and identity politics these days. Everyone is wound up about something.

I’ve stopped trying with these people. Spend your efforts on the undecided fence sitters, and for f@ck’s sake, show a little tact and understanding of your audience.

Joe, shut up for now, until you figure out how to say your bit without providing ammo to the other side.

Open Carry Texas, just stop. Please.

  9. JTC Says:

I’ve railed pretty hard on the in-your-face OC’ers, but I’ll be damned if I can fault anything this guy said or how he said it.

To that father: stop allowing blood-dancing anti’s to use your personal tragedy to further their actual agenda…unless of course you are so cold and heartless to be one of them, and it saddens me intensely to say that I think that is the case.

  10. Donald L. Says:

Wow. i read through the comments. Those folks are unhinged and conviced that we are unhinged. Many commenters openly advocate for 2nd Amendment supporters to be killed as a form of punishment or “tit for tat” reckoning for people killed by firearms. The vitriol is not surprising, but it is so consistent as to be a bit disconcerting. This desire to be helpless bewilders me.

  11. mike w. Says:

    From the TPM comments

“Think about it. Joe SHOULD be worried about his right to own a gun, IF mental health restrictions are ever put into effect. Anyone expressing inhuman(e) opinions like his IS mentally ill. Lack of empathy is often a key sign of sociopathy.”

So we’re supposed to trust that the anti-gun left won’t use “mental health” to take away people’s guns, yet here we have an anti-gun leftist flat out saying that if anyone says “I’m sorry for your loss, but my rights are my rights.” this is proof that the person is mentally ill……and should have said rights taken away.

  12. Windy Wilson Says:

My right to free speech was stronger than all the rioting on college campuses across America in the 60’s, was stronger than the Watts riots, the riot in Detroit, in Philadelphia, and elsewhere, and I am not deemed unsuited to exercise that right because of the dead at Kent State. My right to be secure from unreasonable search and seizure does not disappear because Ted Kaczynski, and Joker Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev made bombs in the privacy of their own homes, and I am and I am not deemed unsuited to keep that right because of the dead and wounded from their bombs.

So, new laws MIGHT have saved a life in Isla Vista, but that same law would give a free hand to gangsters in the inner cities? How do these people run their own lives with reasoning like that? I suppose they think they can just avoid the bad parts of town, but they make laws that make the bad parts bigger. Not everyone can live behind security gates with security people coordinating by cell phone so they don’t have to open the gates except at exactly the right moment.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
