Kids show Sam and Cat rejects nanny state

My kids watch this horrible show called Sam and Cat. But it had a good moment that made me kind of smile. Some nanny had banned some sort of soda so the kids started making that soda. Then, some nanny finds them making the soda and says they want it banned because people drink to much of it. And it’s not healthy. And they ask the perfectly reasonable question of whether to ban sandwiches because people eat too many of them. Ban sleeping, roller coasters and hugs! And everything.

Not fair to punish everybody because some people can’t control themselves.

Good.

I’m sure this episode will be banned in those nanny states. And, if that proves undoable, they will erect Chinese-style Internet censorship.

wow. that’s actually pretty dang subversive.

I’ve been subjected to many, many a stupid show, and that one is at least tolerable (ie, not the weird teen shit on Disney*, or Spongebob).

My biggest complaint is.. that… stupid… VOICE the redhead does. My wife assures me that’s not her natural voice. And I just wonder… why? Why do that?

I got a kick out of that episode — especially since the soda they were (illegally) manufacturing was blue. Too bad Hank from Breaking Bad didn’t play the enforcement guy!

    * Seriously, I’ve seen both Nick and Disney live-action shows, and the kids on Disney are always way, way more sarcastic/rude/disrespectful than the ones on Nick. I’m not sure why it is, but Disney should really reign in the brat-acting.

If only real nannies would break down and cry and repent the error of their ways like the dude on that show.

For a dumb show, that IS fairly awesome.

Life paradox #3471; I want to ban people who ban things, but then I’d be banned for banning banning things.

Maybe at gunpoint it could be made to happen, but then it wouldn’t be genuine. It would be breaking down and crying to avoid being shot. Then again; who am I to nitpick?

But Lyle was so much older then; he’s younger than that how.

I saw that episode and had the same response. It prompted me to pull out the video for Citizens for a Really Really Safe Ashland. Kids loved and it say the connection immediately. And asked why Oba hates America do much.

Our 11 year old is allowed to watch South Park with us for many, many of the same reasons.

Yes – it’s vile, disgusting, and verbally abusive to a wide array of people. But in the end, it’s ultimately personal responsibility and not a hand out that’s going to fix a problem.

But then again he’s read Atlas Shrugged and mostly every book I have by Ron Paul and Hayek. Also asked to watch “I, Pencil” one day and then asked to watch the whole series on Freidman.

Nickelodeon and Disney were among the channels I v-chipped out when my son was little. There was some good off the wall stuff on Cartoon Network I’d watch with him, especially Adult Swim, plus science fiction, South Park, plenty of history, science, etc. We treat our children too much like children, and it makes them stupid and emotionally immature.

Holy Crap! This episode is not only subversive of the nanny state, but a huge homage to Breaking Bad. Not only is the “Blue Dog” soda a subtle reference to the blue meth of Walter White, the whole process of making Blue Dog at minute 9 is a direct reference to a Walter White meth cook, complete with accompanying music of similar style.

Well done, SamandCat, well done indeed!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
