In Illinois

Limited reciprocity with other states? Don’t leave the car when driving through. Or, be like me, and just don’t ever go there.

Who needs the NSA?

When people give it away:

Blast from the past

An article shortly after the passage of the Hughes Amendment. A few things I noticed. First is the use of Rambo. And next, man I’d love to get a M-16 for $1,800.

Shot Shell Shot Glass

Very cool looking. But I don’t know that I’d like drinking from metal.

Finally, a place violence is rising

The movies

NSSF considered caving

They considered leaving Newtown after the shooting there. Good for them they didn’t. If they had, the impact on their organization would not have been good.

Crazy talk

Years ago, if you said there would be a ban on smoking in one’s own home, you were crazy. Well, guess what happened in Cali?

And a few years ago, death panels were crazy talk . . .

because half of 42 is almost 22!

New glock ad teasing a “smaller” gun. Single stack 9mm or 22LR? I’m guessing the former but would have preferred the latter. Or it may be a sub-sub-compact.

The thing about gun control

Is that it completely relies on lies

Solution in search of problem

A partial manual safety for Glocks. It won’t go bang as long as you push the button. Unlike regular Glocks, which don’t go bang unless you push the button.

The future of media

Press uses someone’s twitter photos, has to pay out $1.2M.

Harassment

Treating gun owners like criminals.

I like the plan here

About time

First time I know the local paper actually covered the sales tax increase.

Also, this is why you don’t buy the Wal-Mart Colt AR or M&P15

Regular quality v. Wal-Mart quality.

Tac-Con™ 3MR Trigger

Mentioned the trigger a bit back and posted the video of the new take on a legal happy switch. Well, I was curious how it worked so I emailed their media person asking them for more info. Here’s what they said:

Thank you for your interest in Tac-Con™. The response to our revolutionary, new 3MR (3rd Mode Reset) trigger has been overwhelming and we appreciate your patience as we launch our new company. We issued a media press release on November 12th and it made AR15.com some minutes later. Not to say that was a bad thing but we were not entirely prepared for the tremendous public response! We are ramping up production in anticipation of our official launch on December 1st!.

About the Tac-Con™ 3MR Trigger

The 3MR is a drop-in 3-mode fire control system with Safe, Semi-Automatic, and Tac-Con™’s patented 3rd Mode. The 3rd mode has a positive reset that dramatically reduces the split times between shots. The positive reset characteristic is achieved by transferring the force from the bolt carrier through the trigger assembly to assist the trigger back onto the front sear. As a result, this gives the firearm the fastest reset possible. Both semi and 3rd mode positions exhibit a non-adjustable 4.5 pound trigger pull weight. Why 4.5 pounds? Because most law enforcement agencies limit any trigger used for duty to 4.5 pounds and above. Extensive testing done by Tac-Con™, the ATF (BATFE), and professional shooters have proven that this is the fastest semi-automatic trigger in the world. The 3MR is ATF approved and is NOT a NFA part. Each trigger is accompanied by a copy of the ATF letter. This is not a bump fire system. The shooter must pull the trigger once for every round fired.
Additional information will be available at www.tacfirecon.com on December 1st.
Thank you for your interest in Tac-Con™!!

TLDR version: speeds up the reset, no bumpfiring, and the trigger pull weight is 4.5lbs.

There was speculation that it was a hair trigger. I’ll be curious how well it works.

Update: It’s an automated response. I replied back to this email asking about price and demo versions; and they sent the same email immediately.

Pro-Tip

If you use a laser bore sighter to sight in your new scope, it will annoy a Boston terrier and two cats. That, in addition to violating one rule of firearm safety.

Solvent Trap Adapter

Via Subguns.com, comes this. Yes, you can use it to thread an oil filter on your gun and not waste solvent while cleaning. Or, you know, for some other reason:

Testing

One .. two

Well, site seems to have unexploded.

This time, they’ll make it work

In The City (My The City), our politicos spend too much money. And instead of doing what, like, say a family would do and cut spending, they always try to raise taxes. For the children, they say. The marketing plan is vote for schools because a vote against is against schools and not against waste or something. So, every few years there’s a ballot initiative to raise sales taxes. Trouble for them is they have those elections in major election years and the voters tell them to get bent:

2012 – no

2008 – no

Well, this year they done got smart and a bit slimy and decided to have a December 2013 election that is receiving very little coverage in the press. And it’s on an off year. So, the minions know but the rest of us may not be aware.

Any way, I’ll vote no and I hope you locals do too. Early voting is now. Just follow the signs trying to guilt you up near the court house.

Dennis Update

Linoge comments: Dennis is out of surgery and reportedly everything went smoothly.

Burris AR-PEPR Review: The install

So, I mentioned the new AR and I set out to make it my own:

IMG_20131121_184344

Yeah, it looks like the Magpul factory threw up on it but I dig it. Anyhoo, I went with an MTAC optic and figured I’d get a Burris mount as well. Well, I ordered what I thought was a 30mm QD mount. It was a one inch QD. I sent it back and again ordered what I thought was a 30mm QD mount. It was 30mm and not QD. Sent it back. Third time’s the charm, and finally a Quick Detach 30mm showed up. Order that one. Hope that saves you time.

So, with the right one finally, I set out to mount it. Each ring on the scope has 6 screws so you need to loosen 12 screws to mount an optic. Now, either the screws are low quality or they came torqued too tight from the factory because I stripped 3 of them removing them. I stripped them to the point of using an oversized bit and a 18v drill were required to remove them.

Aside from that complaint, I dig it. The QD works well but requires a little trial and error to get it set it right. The view through the reticle is clear. Unlike my other 1-4 (a Nikon Monarch), the front iron sight ghosts slightly in the bottom 1/3 of the screen. I’d compare it, on the 1X setting, to the view of the front sight on one of my EOTechs. It’s there but it doesn’t hinder use. On magnified settings, you can’t see it at all.

I’ll have more once I shoot it.

Leatherman Skeletool Fail – Update

I mentioned it broke before. I went to their website, printed off a form, and they sent me an email saying a replacement was on it’s way. Well, the replacement arrived a couple of weeks ago. And, while I cannot tell without breaking it, the may have started forging the newer models instead of casting them:

What do you think?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
