Crime Rate in Camden, NJ Going Down After Unionized Police Force Sacked

What you have is the City of Camden being dirt poor and really just and extension of Philly while the other areas of Camden County are super wealthy. Now the super wealthy are paying the policing costs to make sure the dirtbags don’t come out to Cherry Hill, Voorhees or Haddenfield.

Not to dispute the implied point of the article, but since Crime Rates are determined by UCR reporting, which is done by the Police, I’m not sure I buy the validity of the argument. That’s kind of like saying, “Since we abolished our complaint department our volume of complaints has dropped drastically.”

Unions can be a great thing if they have a strong interest in keeping the business competitive to maintain their jobs. They are a disaster in situations where the employer is a non-competitive entity, and worse, has near unlimited funds in the public purse.
When our local PD instituted a policy of suspending (with pay) cops after shooting to avoid interference in the investigation, the union started paying for 3 days of hotel and spa treatment “to ease the burden”. Now we have federal oversight and mandatory cameras due to excessive deadly force use.

    Mac,

My sister’s family lives in Haddonfield and Collinswood.

It’s an amazing change driving into Camden to see the Aquarium or the battleship when we visit back East. One block is Mayberry, then the next Detroit.

I took the wrong turn off the bridge coming back from Philly once a few years back and I’ve seldom felt so out of place as I did for those few blocks. I was just glad I hit all green lights.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
