Facebookless
Decided to forgo facebook for a while to see if a I missed anything important or if I just missed it. Well, with the exception of not getting news about Dennis (who is now doing better, btw), I’ve not missed it all that much. In the last 2 or so weeks, I’ve looked at it once and that was on while riding passenger on a long trip and the boredom got to me. When I did that, I primarily checked just a few people who are insightful or funny. Or that are important to me. And then stopped. Used to pretty much have the window open all the time at home. Now, I don’t.
But facebook noticed. And now, it sends me email notifications that someone posted something I might read. Or someone “liked” something I wrote months ago. It tries to drag you back in, it seems.

I log out after each visit. I’m sure they keep track of that sort of thing.

I gave up defacebook 2 years ago and have not missed it. I got tired of: new baby, new car, old girlfriend, divorce, marriage etc… I may like a person in real life, but on defacebook you’re a f’n pest.

I stopped about two weeks ago. I just don’t trust Facebook to be honest about its privacy settings.
I miss my gunnie friends on Facebook.

If you use Firefox, be sure to add TrackMeNot to you add ons. They love to track you, even if you aren’t logged in.
I miss some things not being on facebook (I have a profile, that is disabled 99.999% of the time) but not much.
And I value my privacy too much.

Of course they want you to post.
Selling user privacy and preferences is their only profit source.
When the service is free, you are what is being sold.

I love Facebook. I suppose it mostly depends on your circle of friends, and how frequently they all use it. If you’re a member of any topical or social groups it can be a lot of fun to chat with people on there, and even meet new people with common interests. It’s what you make of it, and certainly isn’t going to appeal to everyone. It goes without saying that you do need to be careful with personal information.

I’m rarely on anymore and generally only there when someone tries to contact me who forgot about this neat thing called ’email’.
Other than that, I leave a snarky comment or a photo every few weeks and forget about it.
Oh, and I use DoNotTrackMe which, interestingly enough, blocks YOUR site from tracking me 😉 That’s probably SiteMeter working its magic.

I seem to remember a movie gangster having the same complaint. Avoid the opera, especially in Italy.

I deleted mine about two years ago, which was right when I finished high school. Haven’t looked back since then.
