Is the NSA building a gun owner registry?
Senators asked them if they were collecting data on guns an owners. Given the way the question was phrased, the seem to know more than they are letting on. Such a database would, of course, be illegal.

Anybody who doesn’t believe the Feds have been doing a gun owner database for DECADES hasn’t been paying attention.
There’s a reason serial numbers are on those forms.

So a gun registry is illegal to construct.
What kind of illegal is it for those involved? A felony with hard time or a misdemeanor with a fine/probation or something that gets you cited, like a traffic ticket?
And who gets charged, with what exactly, for constructing such a registry? The head of the NSA, or one schlub programmer who made the excel file of gun owners/addresses/phone#s from the vast database?
Inquiring minds want to know!

That’s been my main problem with “background checks”. If all they need to do is verify I can own a gun, why do they need to know what kind of weapon I am buying and the serial number of it?

mikee, what difference does it make? You’re assuming it will ever be prosecuted.
Holder won’t prosecute, and if we ever do get an honest AG, prosecuting members of a previous administration is just… vindictive politics.

They already have a registry of gun owners and, guess what, they do not give a damn if it is illegal or not.

The answer regarding “punishment” and “prosecution” is that action is taken against the perjury to cover it up. If you are the House Majority, and you know a crime has been committed, you call the guilty parties to the floor and ask them under oath.
Which is exactly what they did.
I think they are building an impeachment case against Holder. Failure to prosecute demonstrated perjury is obstruction of justice, and a felony. Here’s hoping.
