One of the major gun-control efforts in Olympia this session calls for the sheriff to inspect the homes of assault-weapon owners. The bill’s backers say that was a mistake.
It was a wish list item that wasn’t meant to be left on. Doesn’t Washington pre-empt gun laws?

Like a few other states, there in WA. they are throwing it at the wall to see what sticks.
It’s a strategy designed to stretch our resources to the limit and discourage us.
I don’t agree with playing defense all the time.

Washington has very strong pre-emption (RCW 9.41.290), and very simple (read: minimal) regulations on what you are NOT allowed to do (RCW 9.41.270, 280, and 300)
However, since this is a bill proposed in the STATE SENATE, it would in fact become the established ‘state law’ that does the pre-empting should it pass.

One good thing about the current push for gun-control is all the new evidence of the true face behind the public mask of the gun-control crusade. Their real efforts are destroying the lies they hide behind.
This is why every day of delay is a win for us. The forces of gun-control are only able to fool enough of the people for a limited time. The gun-banners only advance their cause when they rush legislation into law, before the public has a chance to soberly consider and reject it.

Irritating that reporters like this are still going to rail about NRA paranoia despite the fact that over and over again, everything the NRA says about anti-gun activists and politicians keeps popping up in speeches and now in actual legislation. Is he going to offer a real apology for getting things wrong? No. He’ll go back to slinging the same crap he always does, and never mind the truth. Idiots.

The anti-gunners are proposing much that violates the 4th and 5th Amendments (and the reciprocal ones in State Constitutions) which otherwise they would vigorously defend, even for criminals apprehended in the commission of crimes. Yet they are ready to violate those rights to criminalize otherwise law-abiding fellow citizens merely for exercising their 2nd Amendment rights. And how would these onerous provisions be enforced if they become law—oh, by guns, of course!

To the extent that the 14th Amendment applies ALL of the Bill of Rights to States and local governments. Many of these current and proposed state and city gun laws already violate the 2nd Amendment and others like th 4th and 5th evinced to specifically attack the 2nd.
Otherwise, Washington D. C. has NO “delegated powers” for gun laws except those that apply to those who are called into service and employed. (Article I, Section 8.16)

But he wasn’t aware that the statement about “gun control efforts in Olympia” referred to the Washington state legislature in Olympia ( capital of Washington State ), and not the Olympia city council.

Citizens of Washington should be outraged by a law that directs the sheriff to inspect the homes of assault weapon owners. But they should be ready to revolt over the fact that the sheriff would know which homes have assault weapons.

Nobody in government at any level in Washington State knows who has what guns other than handguns purchased from an FFL holder. And they don’t even know anything about handguns except the initial purchase — if you sell it to, or buy from, another person, the paper trail is broke.

Also note what the column writer considers ‘perfectly reasonable gun control’:
…the bill would ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons that use detachable ammunition magazines. Clips that contain more than 10 rounds would be illegal.
Yeah, PERFECTLY reasonable.
