Corker on guns

Don’t assume you’re safe. I’ve seen his canned letter a few times. It’s nothing earth-shatteringly in support of gun rights but it’s definitely not anti-gun either.

Regardless, contact your legislators now.

Update: More here.

This appears to be what he is sending out:

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office regarding the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

Like any parent, I was heartbroken to hear about this tragedy, and like other Tennesseans, I have the victims and families in my thoughts and prayers. Given such an unspeakable act of violence perpetrated on children, it’s appropriate to talk about what we’re doing to keep our communities safe, recognizing the issues involved are complex, especially when it comes to identifying and acting upon the warning signs that always seem to precede these incidents.

While I have always believed that it is critical to ensure that firearms are kept out of the hands of those who have lost their constitutional right to firearm possession, the right to own firearms for shooting, hunting, and self-protection is important to me as a Tennessean and as an American. Should legislation dealing with our Second Amendment rights come before the Senate, I will certainly take your concerns into consideration. I also wanted to share the steps I have taken to protect our Second Amendment rights in the attached “Policy Points” document.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me.

    Sincerely,
    Bob Corker

The document, which was attached for me, indicated what he has done in the past, but said nothing about what he will do.

How does one “loose a constitutional right”?

  3. TigerStripe Says:

You cannot lose a Constitutional Right but the government may act in a way to keep you from exercising one. My belief is that the only illegal firearm is a stolen one…

Must look a lot like “letting slip the dogs.”

I pinged Corny twice already, got a very nice letter saying he wasn’t signing on to anything save changes to mental health care funding and other similar things.

Cruz is no-way, no-how, signing up to this garbage. In fact, I expect he’ll filibuster any gun control coming down the pike.

My wife has written three times to Warner, and twice to Kaine. Canned responses, and Kaine is pro-gun-control, but Warner is coming up for re-election in 2014, so HE is vulnerable.

Keep at it, people. Write your own letters; use the NRA’s contact system, too; and call them.

They are under a lot of pressure from BO and the press. Inside the Beltway, otherwise smart people are buying into the President’s BS about “consensus”. We need to let our Congresspeople know that the consensus is AGAINST gun control, not in favor.

This one’s for all the marbles, and they know it. If they can’t pass anything after Sandy Hook, gun control is dead in America. If they manage to pass something, anything, it will be a new lease on life for these people.

  6. Mike Says:

    Ooops, meant to say “Cornyn”.

  7. Ron W Says:

I have used GOA’s contact system to Senators Alexander and Corker. I intend to write or call with my own message statin that any “universal background check” which included any sort of database would be a violation of the 4th and 5th Amendments and thus, treason against the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

  8. Ron W Says:

    Mike writes,

“If they can’t pass anything after Sandy Hook, gun control is dead in America.”

I hope you’re right, but favorable events can be facilitated. Clandestine evil and treachery is present with “wickedness in high places”

  9. TigerStripe Says:

Mike, I got the response from Corny and it sounded reasonable but not anywhere near what Cruz is saying. I’m going to keep contacting Cornyn to make sure he doesn’t cave on something “sensible”.

RonW, I agree. Gun control will never be dead in this country. It may be dormant for a while, but it will never die completely.

  10. Ron W Says:

The Federal gov’t has NO “delegated powers” to do anything that is currently purposed EXCEPT that government officials and agents are exempt. In fact, it is only those, “such part of the militia”, who are called into service and employed over which the Federal Gov’t has any “delegated power” to govern. That is plainly stated in Article I, Section 8.16 of the U.S. Constitution. Otherwise the 2nd and 10th Amendments make were added in 1791 to prevent this abuse of power.

  11. LKP Says:

I have already e-mailed all my congressional representatives twice in the last 30 days. I called Corker’s Knoxville office and spoke with a very nice lady. I explained how I felt about the issue. She said the senator hasn’t commented yet because nothing has made it out of committee yet. She reminded me that he has a 100 score from the NRA.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
