In common use

A California high school’s police department (they have police departments?) went out and bought themselves some AR-15s to prevent school shootings. But I thought that was just crazy NRA insurrectionist talk!

Well after all Dianne said it best “Weapons of war do not belong on our streets, in our classrooms, in our schools or in our movie theaters.”

So this should help keep AR-15’s out of the…nevermind.

Not just AR-15s, but high powered ones, according to AP (who I believe made the headline, since Yahoo’s just aggregating).

I also notice they sprung for really nice ones with a monolithic upper.

Guess that particular part of California ain’t strapped for cash… or rather, since I looked it up and found that Fontana isn’t exactly rolling in cash, I guess the school system got a State or Federal check or just don’t care.

No, no, no: you just don’t get it.

An AR-15 rifle in the hands of a man with an official badge is an icon of protection, a tool for public safety, and a testament to the nobility of our public servants.

An AR-15 rifle in YOUR hands is A MILITARY WEAPON OF WAR FIRED FROM THE HIP TO MURDER INNOCENTS THAT HAS NO PLACE ON OUR STREETS!!!!!!!Eleven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would actually be surprised how many people see the issue in these terms.

Yeah, I’ve always wondered about how the very same rifle in police hands is an icon of protection, but in civilian hands it is a *gasp* “ASSAULT WEAPON OF WAR!!!”

I work in a high school, and I’ve been wandering the halls for 10 years as a uniformed, armed deputy. Our Sheriff decided 10 years ago to put deputies in every school in the (parish) county When I’m off sick, I get calls “When are you coming back to work.?” Yeah, I’ve got a substitute deputy on duty; the school is covered, but the folks like THEIR deputy walking the halls.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
