Layers of editorial oversight

Chicago Tribune calls sling mount a bayonet lug. It’s next to the shoulder thing that goes up.

    Close enough for baboons.

    Handy when hunting mastodon.

Obviously confused about the difference between a “spear” and a “pike”. Hint: When you’re outta ammo and have a knife stuck on the end of your rifle, you hang onto it, you don’t throw it away.

They don’t care if it’s called a clip or magazine, they don’t care what the proper definition of an assault weapon is. The mass media news is theater and they don’t let facts get in the way of a good story. Their job is to sell fear to the sheep.

One good push of pike, and that city could be ours.
Walleye pike, I’m thinking. Good eating if you fix them right.

I was very disappointed in Basic Training. I qualified expert with the M16A2, hand grenade, and Dragon AT missile. But I barely qualified with the spear… I mean bayonet mounted on a rifle. Something about my throwing technique that my Drill Sergeant could never really correct.

Thankfully, it has not been an issue in 4 deployments.

I’ll give that one a pass, given that it’s easy to misplace a circle during graphics layout and never even notice.

At least the description text was mostly right (though I don’t know if the M203 or equivalent uses the bayonet mount to attach at all).

(Contra rickn8or, a “spear” is not always thrown; that’s a javelin.

A spear can also be held in the hands and used with thrusting or slashing motions.

A pike is a very long spear; not even a Brown Bess musket is long enough to be a pike.)

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
