Control the language, control the debate

The AP gets its marching orders on gun control vs. gun violence:

We think there’s room for both kinds of phrasing in our report. We should vary our terms from one script or story to another. But pay attention to the context: Obama didn’t unveil a “gun violence package,” but a package against gun violence.

No, he released a gun control package. It will do nothing to prevent gun violence. At least there’s progress on the whole clip and magazine thing.

Yeah, right. They came up with “magazine clip”. WTF izzat?

  2. rickn8or Says:

It’s the use of “clip” vs. “magazine” that lets me know if the writer even has a clue about guns.

  3. rickn8or Says:

Likewise, the phrase “bullets in a clip” lets me know not to bother reading any further.

  4. TigerStripe Says:

Shun Hammity and his “an eight clip magazine” being illegal in NY. Not much better…

    Obama unveils a package?
    Who knew?

  6. Ron W Says:

    rickn8or, you’re correct.

Almost no one needs a clip since it’s for facilitating easier loading of rounds into an internal magazine of some milsurp rifle. On the other hand we do need mags for the semi-autos of which they want to restrict or deny us.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
