Words mean things

We’re not going to take your guns but we do throw around words like “confiscation”

    Indeed.

“Let me be perfectly clear: We are not TAKING your guns away. We are CONFISCATING them. If we took your guns away, we’d just take them from you by force; upon confiscation, however, you will receive this shiny $50 gift certificate to Wal-Mart. See? Nobody is taking your guns away.”

I’ve seen Progressive acquaintances say thigns like that.

“Nobody needs an ‘assault rifle’ [not that I have a clear idea what that really means except it’s scary] so they shpuld be banned. But I don’t want to ban guns!”

Yeah. You want to ban every gun someone can scare you with in a media frenzy.

    First it’s “assault rifles”.

Then it’s “semi-automatics” [because aren’t those like machineguns?!].

Then it’s “high powered sniper rifles” (hunting rifles).

    Then it’s “handguns”.

Then it’s (see that shooting in California, where a 12 gauge is reported as a “high powered shotgun”) “shotguns”.

    Then there’s nothing left. Oops.

Even if the person in question didn’t start out “wanting to ban guns”, that’s where it ends up.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
