So, the NRA, Wal-Mart and Joe Biden walk into a bar . . .

That’s the joke, if you need a punchline, make one up.

Anyhoo, there was this meeting where a bunch of political players were going to tell corporations, gun rights people, and others exactly what was going to happen. Make no mistake, that was what was going on. They do not want to negotiate or “have a conversation” they want to lecture and, like the crocodile, promise to eat you last. So, what was the result? Well, here’s a transcript of shots across the bow.

The NRA has a statement:

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.

Biden has said he’d have recommendations by Tuesday. Here’s hoping they are rightly ignored. The key here is The House. Write your reps.

Shorter Joe Biden: “All of us agree on how guns should be legally owned, except the NRA, which represents legal gun owners.”

  2. Divemedic Says:

Good luck with that. My Rep is Alan Grayson.

  3. ExurbanKevin Says:

Mine is Matt Salmon, and it was Jeff Flake before that. Am I blessed to live where I do? You betcha.

  4. Jeffersonian Says:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

What part of “shall not be infringed” do they not understand.

The second amendment does not grant me the right to own firearms for self-defense or any other purpose.

It restricts the Gov’t from making any laws which deprive me of the right to own any weapon which I decide can help keep me safe.

They have no right to restrict my access to and posession of firearms.

Tuesday? I already have my recommendations for what Biden can do with his recommendations.

You left out an interesting line from the NRA press release.

The NRA correctly points out that the Biden proposals, discussed at the meeting, are the “failed solutions” already tried and already rejected by the legislatures, the courts, and the people such laws affect.

FAILED SOLUTIONS is a good phrase. In the need to “do something” the idea that doing the same thing again, only harder, that did not work before indicates a very weak connection to reality.

I was listening to NPR on the way home yesterday, and they had a segment on this.

If the tone of their reporting is any indication, this whole thing will fizzle into nothing. At this point, they MIGHT get a universal background check law enacted in Congress, but even that is iffy. The NPR parasites were almost crying in their milk bowls. One of the reporters (can’t remember which) had an entire segment where he was actually laying out all the things the WH could do, exactly as he would be doing if he was advising the president. The guy was openly advocating policy measures — guess he figured he wasn’t getting invited to the summit, so he’d invite himself via his NPR megaphone. Anyway, at the end, they all concluded none of the measures they were not-so-subtly pushing would get implemented.

I felt much better. I’m not letting up, but I do feel better.

Mike, that’s why Crazy Joe mentioned executive orders: It’s the only realistic option they have at this point.

They know gun control is dead in Congress, so if Obama wants anything done he will have to do it himself. If he does, he might hurt the red state Democrats up for re-election in 2014.

If he doesn’t, it shows to everyone just who the boss is in Washington when it comes to guns.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
