If I’m ever destined to have a KABOOM!, let it be a 22LR in a hell for stout pistol.
I love my own Buckmark, and would hate to see it damaged.
The only way this incident could have been less dangerous would have been to use a Ruger pistol. But then the pistol reassembly after the investigation would have been the problem, not the diagnosis.

Cheaper .22lr rounds tend to fail like this, and cause kabooms when they do.
Iver Johnson sold a rear gas seal .22 revolver specifically designed to stand up to this and contain such kabooms.
The only sure cure for this is to use expensive match ammo, where individual rounds are all weighed before being boxed.

That CCI Blaser .22 is some of the worst crap out there.
When I bought my first box the bullets wobbled and spun freely in the case mouths.
I’m amazed that crap even fed into an auto-loader.

Is it possible that the particular cheapness that caused ‘splodey was not hot powder or defective brass, but an out of spec rim sizing that retarded extraction, bringing about the out-of-battery condition?
I read the follow-up and was impressed by the maker’s response. Try to imagine what Eley or Lapua would say to a similar plea.
