What caliber for gator?

Gator hunters may soon be able to use handguns.

Having hunted them, I agree with the hunter there: a bang stick is more effective and safer than a handgun. The one I used was a .44. I know another guy that uses .38 wad cutters in his.

Doesn’t LA allow the use of firearms for alligator hunting?

  3. nk Says:

Yes, Louisiana does. It’s laws are aimed more at poaching, it needs to be your land or land you have permission to be on, and you have to have a special permit. The way they like to do it there, though, is with a baited hook. It has to be an plain iron hook because gators can digest those in case they do break away. Not stainless or brass, that’s a slow death for the animal.

You shoot them in the boat after you gaff them? Who thinks that’s a great idea?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
