Dish detergent. I also make laundry detergent. For about $20, I can do laundry for six months.

So…what’s the recipe for the Laundry detergent. You can label it as “Tactical” cleanser.

But does your formula for Dishwasher detergent include phosphate?
I’m on a public sewer system that spent a hunk of money not too long ago so that they can remove all but a trace amount of the phosphate from our wastewater. I’d hate for all that investment to go to waste…

Fels-Naptha, Borax, and Washing Soda. About a thousand different variations of the same recipe all over the web. You can use any bar soap for the Fels-Naptha, and the other two ingredients are on the bottom shelf of the laundry section at Mal-Wart.
Last time I bothered to calculate – 2002 or so – it cost me like 5 cents a load (+ electricity.)

Lye soap.
Wooden barrel. Ashes from your fireplace and water always. Hole near about one fourth from the bottom. Something to catch it with. That’s your lye.
Fat leavings. Could be from your smoked pig, from your preserved meat jars, could be olive oil. As long as it’s a fat.
Mix lye and fat and boil till it hardens. Be careful. Lye is dangerous stuff.

Add some Trisodium Phosphate to either soap mix to boost the performance. Doesn’t take much, about 1/8 tsp/load.
TSP is available in the paint department at Wal mart or Home Depot.

I used the tube from an enema bag, a one way check valve, a little ingenuity, and whammo. Now I can refill my bic lighter. You have to think outside the box.
