Tolerance!

Girl not allowed to attend her prom because of her confederate flag dress.

  1. Ted N Says:

“Tolerance means exactly what we say it means, nothing more, nothing less.”

  2. Sebastian The Blogless Says:

Instructive to see who is and isn’t upset about these sorts of things; if she were told she can’t wear a bikini or a burqa, it would probably be a different crowd.

  3. Cargosquid Says:

She should have worn a burqa made from a Confederate flag……

  4. Bubblehead Les Says:

Wonder what would have happened if she wore a Confederate Flag Hoodie?

  5. Weer'd Beard Says:

Isn’t it interesting that the failed succession of the Confederate States is now viewed exclusively as a war for owning people.

I wonder what the British textbooks would say about our little war if Canada extended to the Gulf of Mexico.

  6. Suki Says:

I am still looking for material of silhouetted pole dancers for a hijab. Thanks for the reminder Cargosquid!

Saw something on a friend’s blog with a Sheryl Crow connection to this story:

    Not really.

  8. nk Says:

History and revisionism are basically synonymous, WB. Still, if you want to do “in your face” nose-thumbing you’ve got to expect push back. No, if I disagree with what you have to say, I will not fight to the death for your right to say it. I have to pick up my kid from school.

  9. Rick Says:

Suki, is this what you’re looking for?

  10. mariner Says:

    Yes, Weer’d.

It’d be a shame if too many people found out that the late unpleasantness was about money and power, the same as the current unpleasantness.

  11. karrde Says:

    Wait a minute…which Confederate flag?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America

Oh, that’s right. The Tennessee battle flag, which somehow got the appellation “Confederate Flag”…because there are too darn many flag on the official list. Or something.

  12. nk Says:

My opinion is the same as Jefferson’s and Lincoln’s, that this great country should not be another Canada and Mexico, and abolition was a distraction even though I abhor slavery. Your mileage may vary.

  13. mikee Says:

If this were the Volokh Conspiracy blog, I’d expect the first dozen comments to include at least one about the requirement that infringements on free expression by state agents (the school) have to be consistent, content neutral, and narrowly limited in time and place to achieve a specified goal that is at least rational.

Here, I’ll just go with the question of how many kids got busted at that prom for trying to enter while drunk.

  14. Suki Says:

Rick, not quite. Was looking for something obvious and fashionable, like gold on black. Not cammo.

  15. chris Says:

I will spend eternity in our family plot in West Tn at the feet of our family patriarch, who was a Colonel in the Mississippi Cavalry.

  16. anon Says:

The sad thing is: the admins wouldn’t have complained if the same dress was being worn to prom by a trannie.

  17. comatus Says:

My comment on this situation is always the same:
Fifty thousand black men, sir, fought for Dixie.

  18. Ron W Says:

This is bigotry and intolerance…which I thought were not tolerated in our schools.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
