They were not asked, they were ordered to disarm. A big difference, sort of like being told they could go watch Panetta, and being ordered to go watch Panetta.

    Charming.

  3. Jim Brack Says:

No firearms were allowed when I watched Bob Hope and Ann Margret perform. It is not unusual when high ranking dignitaries visit that the troops are unarmed.

It’s highly unusual for the troops to disarm for SECDEF.
When Clinton was still in office it was generally required to disarm. The USSS had done a risk assessment and concluded that it was a highly likely probability that a soldier would make an attempt on him.

  5. Bob Smith Says:

I wonder if some of the troops think Paneta is the enemy.

  6. Mr Evilwrench Says:

The whole misadministration is the enemy, and any troops that haven’t realized that by now should probably never be armed.

  7. Divemedic Says:

When I was in, we were ordered to disarm for VP Quayle’s visit.

  8. Mike Paulus Says:

Not so strange. I had an active duty marine who didn’t grow up with firearms ask about it being crazy that his roommate keeps a loaded gun in the house. His whole experience is only being given ammo when he needs it so no one has a negligent discharge.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
