Violence Policy Center stupidity: Mini-14 Is “Poor Man’s Assault Rifle”

Let’s see, bare bones mini 14 goes for about $650. Bare bones AR goes for about $650.

Someone is trying out the Saturday night special assault rifle meme.

It’s what they do. Throw out bullshit like “the shoulder thing that goes up”, and see what sticks.

  2. wizardpc Says:

c’mon everyone knows the SKS is the poor man’s assault rifle!

  3. Ellen Says:

Why would I want to spend that much money to assault a poor man?

  4. Dave_H Says:

Yep. I miss the days of the sub $100 SKS. A rugged, reliable semi-auto analog to the trusty American .30-30 for less than a Benjamin. Now that was cool.

  5. Bubblehead Les Says:

And M-16 mags are damn near a Throwaway item now that the Anointed One has “Won” the Wars and has limited purchases for the Military. Heck, it’s cheaper to feed an M4 clone today than it is to feed a Garand!

  6. RWC Says:

So with the economy the way it is, that’s what I should be looking for. Thanks VPC!

  7. RWC Says:

LOL. So the VPC is using Breivik as a source now.

  8. John Smith. Says:

Lets see. Ak for 450… Mini 14 650.. Yep the price is the same…

  9. GD Says:

    Mini-14 – the choice of the A-team!

  10. OHIO SHAWN Says:

GD beat me to the A-team reference, and really, I can go out and buy a decent AR for the same price as a Mini-14 (and have) so this article makes no sense.
I would rant about lm needing to fact check, but that ship has sailed.

  11. r3VOLutionist777 Says:

And Romanian AK can go for $350 to $400.

  12. tony Says:

I think we are the only people that read their bullshit.

  13. chrispy Says:

The comparison doesn’t make sense, because an AR isn’t an assault rifle. An actual assault rifle (ie a select fire, intermediate caliber rifle) costs what, around $25,000? So I think they’re – perhaps inadvertently – correct. A Mini-14 is indeed a much cheaper substitute for an assault rifle.

  14. Trent Says:

Anti gunners continue their crusade to disarm law abiding poor people. Why are they so raaaaaacist?

  15. Blackwing1 Says:

This week’s price on a Romanian AK-47 (J&G Sales ad in Shotgun News) is $449.95. Buy 5 or more (dealer’s discount) for $429.95 each.

That’s a much cheaper substitute for an assault rifle than payig the $7,000 to $9,000 a full-auto version of an M-16 will run you.

Given that the Brady Bunch can’t do simple math (comparing two numbers to see which one is the highest), this shouldn’t be surprising.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
