Bob wonders.

Nothing will happen. Melson has his deal now and will take the fall. The ATF will continue, business as usual.

  2. BobG Says:

Alan is probably right; I don’t have much faith in the system at this point.

  3. Chas Says:

So what if there’s a former anti-gun Joyce Foundation board member from gun ban Chicago in the White House? He wouldn’t be crazy enough to escalate the violence in Mexico by pouring in thousands of AKs just to generate enough propaganda to push through new gun laws, would he? I mean, that would be nuts and it would blow up in his face. So it never happened, right?

  4. Skip Says:

I actually think that Melson’s going to deny everything, he’s going to testify, but answer some variant on ‘I don’t recall’ on everything that’s really of interest. It’s going to take a special prosecutor who’s not in the Democrat’s pockets to unravel this, and the odds of getting one are basically nil.

  5. Hartley Says:

I hate to say it, but Skip may be right – the history of this administration is one of doubling down EVERY TIME until something breaks – and they know it breaks their way sometimes.

What really matters is: a) what Issa et al really have on them and b) their willingness to use it, given the usual reluctance of politicians to immolate their own kind.

So Comrade Leahy is the Middleman for Barry, cuts a deal with “Conservative Republican” Grassley to give up some ATF Flunkies so Barry can get his 3 nominees placed into “Positions of Authority” to Screw the People even more. This should help fill Grassley’s Campaign Coffers when he goes back to Iowa.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Republican Senate Members are Deafening me with their Silence over the ATF Scandal.

  7. SPQR Says:

The thing is, what the Obama administration is afraid of is that someone actually create enough of a trail to support a serious scandal investigation of the administration. Melson making any obvious lies would be the start of that. Melson has a fine line to walk – of not giving substantive testimony to implicate the admin and of not making obvious perjury.

I doubt he’s smart enough to do that.

  8. Jake Says:

Doesn’t he have subpoena power? Why did he have to cut a deal at all?

  9. Ellen Says:

Somehow, the only people harmed will end up being the whistleblowers. And the rest will look down their noses at us.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
