Odd

My Blackhawk CQC belt broke last weekend. So did Justin’s. The rivet/bolt came out. And the leather stitching on the strap you tuck the belt tip into failed.

Get a WILDERNESS instructor belt or a beltman belt. All others are lacking.

Been wearing my Crossbreed belt for over two years now. Just had to shorten it due to losing 55 lbs, but the belt is still going strong.

  3. Hartley Says:

+1000 on the Wilderness Tactical belt – plastic (for TSA), steel or titanium buckle, it will outlive you. Made right here in Phoenix, Arizona, choice of colors and stiffness. (no, I have no relation to them, but I DO know the owners..:-)

I’m a big fan of this one but it does take some time to break in.

seconding A Horse Thief. i absolutely love mine. i’ve had it a few months, wear it daily, and it barely shows any wear.

MikeW owns this belt and carries on it regularly, and seems just as pleased with it.

I love my beltman belts, though the one I just bought my father-in-law for his birthday had a problem. I’m sure they’ll fix it under warranty.

  7. Les Jones Says:

Oh, that’s me. The Walgreens is from a previous gag.

  8. Mike Says:

I’ve got two Beltmans (one black, one tan), that I like so much I wear them even when not carrying.

You probably wanted a cowboy buckle anyway, so find one and order it. Then, drop down to your hobby/craft store and buy a Stitching Awl. Get a chunk of Beeswax, and some STOUT (80# at least, preferably 100+) polyester thread for it. Wear leather-palm gloves when working.

Chuck the belt in a vise (protect the belt with slabs of smooth wood against the vise jaws), with about 6″ sticking out. Fit the buckle and stitch the buckle-end together with the lock-stitching sewing awl. Wax the thread heavily with the beeswax as you work. When done sewing a rectangle, fill it in with an “X” to the corners of the rectangle.

You’ll be in your grave long before that belt ever fails again.

BTW, if you don’t want a flashy cowboy buckle, go to a tack shop and looks at some serious buckles there. Get nickle-plated brass or stainless steel, forget the “tactical plastic”.

Leather was meant to be lock-stitched, and no machine can do it as well as it can be done by hand.

I’d say if you don’t want to wear your “gun belt” just as a “hold your pants up belt” when not carrying a gun it fails at being a belt.

There’s no reason a good gunbelt shouldn’t be a functional and comfortable plain old belt first and foremost.

Anyway, you will probably need more than one “gun belt” just to ensure you have one that goes, in color and style, with the look of the rest of your outfit (really shouldn’t wear a “rigger’s belt” type with a suit for instance).

In that regard you may need more belts than holsters depending on your lifestyle.

Nice. I checked out Beltman’s site and he sells just a plain buckle for $5 and free shipping. That’ll fix me up for now I suppose.

You do know that you’ll have a new belt this weekend, right?

  13. SayUncle Says:

    Heh. Cool.

Another +1 for Beltman belts. I’ve had my all-black one since 2007, and it’s perfect for work, play or dress-up. Strong enough to carry my 5″ 1911, simple enough to blend in and not look like a kydex mall ninja.

I’m pretty sure the belt will outlast my growing waist size. 🙁

  15. Caleb Says:

Unc, was that the same blackhawk belt that you received in the halcyon days of 2008 at Blackwater?

  16. SayUncle Says:

No. One a i bought a few months ago.

  17. Caleb Says:

    Huh.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
