Should you carry with a chambered round

Good illustration. Honestly, this is one of those questions I’m surprised is even debated. My carry guns, all of them, operate in two modes go and no go. No cycling, so safeties, no extraneous gizmos. If I want it to go bang, I pull the trigger. If not, I don’t touch it.

I completely agree… and carry with one in the pipe.

But, an unchambered gun is better then no gun at all. Its much like off body carry. Its better then leaving the gun at home, but it leaves you vulnerable to those up close in your face attacks like the one demonstrated in the video.

    God bless you.

What is the point of carrying other than in california if one is not chambered?? Might as well carry a ball bat.

  4. Aaron Spuler Says:

    AMEN!

  5. richard Says:

Carrying an empty gun will get you killed. Keep it loaded or leave it home.

During my CHL class here in Texas, the instructor demonstrated the Tueller Distance with a class member as a (plastic) knife wielding assailant and himself as a (Rubber) gun carrier. He got stabbed every time he said ‘Go’, and once before he said it. The student with the knife said, “If I’m gonna stab you, I ain’t waiting for you to say ‘Go’ before I do it.”

The instructor said that was exactly the point of the lesson and of the Tueller distance.

I carry loaded but not chambered. This is because I both live and work in a gun free zone so I have to do a ridiculous amount of messing with my gun every time I carry in order to not become a felon.

  8. trackerk Says:

As Heather demonstrates there are times you should have a loaded chamber and times you shouldn’t. Let the gunfighter assemble the facts, contemplate the possible scenerios and decide what is most appropriate for their situation.

  9. Dan Says:

I used to carry un-chambered for a few months. Took me a while to get used to the idea of carrying it loaded. I would not be surprised if a lot of people need to to make the leap like I did.

  10. Dean Says:

I have an old AMT .380 Backup that, when I used to carry it, it was un-chambered. It has no safety of any kind and is prone to accidental discharge if droped. So, I don’t carry it anymore. As I recall, the Isrealies used to recommend un-chambered carry for the Glock for much the same reason. I don’t know if they still do.

  11. Paul B Says:

Exposed hammer, empty chamber. Covered hammer, one in the pipe. Only one safety and that is my trigger finger.

  12. Gun Blobber Says:

    My alternative to Paul B:

No firing pin block, empty chamber. Firing pin block, one in the pipe. Only one safety and that is my trigger finger.

  13. HardCorps Says:

    Amen.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
