The internet kill switch

Egypt has one to suppress dissent. Obama wants one too. Just a thought. Not that he’d use it for similar reasons just to illustrate it’s a horrible idea.

Well, if BUSHitler McHimpy Haliburtion wanted this the media would call for rioting in the streets to oppose the evil corporate empire of the racist republithuglicans! Plus Cheney, the hater. But Obama is such a hip dude, plus, he’s got some melanin in his skin, so it’s cool!

  2. Paul B Says:

And who says the big O would not do something similar? He is not out of office yet, people.

  3. karrde Says:

It appears to have been a ‘cut off the Intra-Country Net from the rest of the world’…though it might also have been ‘Just shut down every in-country Internet Access Point’.

Either way, the results are scary. Especially if half your phone functions are Internet, and half are voice-channel/other…

  4. Gunmart Says:

You have to use liberal rationale on this one:

If guns kill people, then certainly twitter can over throw a government

  5. Chas Says:

    Kill yo’ momma!

  6. Tango Says:

GunMart, in a roundabout way, I think it can and I think it should have that power. It’s not Twitter that has that power, it just facilitates our communication!

  7. Kevin Says:

They don’t have a “kill switch”, they just have nice people who calll you up and suggest that some not-nice people might come by and beat you to death if you don’t drop your BGP sessions. Just calm and reasoned debate.

  8. Tango Says:

Sadly, it’s just semantics. We. Are. Hosed.

  9. ATLien Says:

We’re not hosed. No one is bullet-proof.

Time to break out the Short Wave Radios. Remember the scene from “The Longest Day”? “John has a Long Mustache, Repeat, John has a Long Mustache…”

  11. Diomed Says:

If the government kills the interwebs, what’s stopping them from jamming shortwave radios (or any other kind)?

By that point the gloves are coming off. And the FCC knows where all the hams live, or can triangulate their position if they go mobile…

  12. Veeshir Says:

    Why focus on Obama?

If there’s anything that’s all about teh obvious, it’s that the more power you give the gov’t the more power it will use.

If we keep giving the gov’t the power that our fine, leftist brethren want to give it, sooner or later there will be a gov’t that will use it.

And then it’ll be too late.

ya know, BBS networks still exist to a certain degree.

    Got Modem?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
