Things I don’t get

Tam talks scout rifles. I don’t really get them other than, yeah, they’re pretty cool. But they don’t do any job great but do most jobs sort of OK. She’s especially unimpressed with the cost of Ruger’s new mags.

Well, they aren’t really useful for you (or me, either, actually.)

The idea is for a slim, light, compact rifle that is easy to carry all day on foot, and yet powerful and accurate enough to take big game out to several hundred yards. I don’t often find myself on foot all day in open country, so I need one like a hen needs a flag…

Get an Indian lee enfield in .308 ;cut down the barrel and add a flash hider. Presto chango far less than 900 bucks.

The crowd loves the home run hitter, not the utility infielder. The Scout Rifle concept is the utility infielder.

If you’re on a hunt, its the greatest thing ever. The weight is just awesome, the trigger is amazing, and the ier is perfect out to 400 yards. A 223 isn’t gonna take down game at 300, probably not people too, but a 308 will do a lot. Within 100 yards it sucks because you have a lot less time to engage targets. It’s the ultimate hunting rifle. The average shooter doesnt have the ability to hit past 400yards anyway , so

I have one of those Indian Enfields; it’s a “type 7”, so it’s the 7.62×51 version of a type 5 “jungle carbine”, already short. Took a bit of work to hang a scope on it, but it fits the definition pretty well. Left handed, I can unload 10 rounds in about 15 seconds, aimed, as long as I’m careful to keep my thumb down. Might carve on it a bit for clearance.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
