What is, then?

Via Radley, I am reminded of of this gem from President Clinton tying loving freedom to terrorism:

the belief that the greatest threat to American freedom is our government, and that public servants do not protect our freedoms, but abuse them.

Well, Bubba, what is the greatest threat to American freedom? I’ll wait.

The worst a bunch of goat-humpers can do is small scale, sporadic attacks. Those attacks don’t really threaten my freedom. The reaction from people like you to those attacks does.

Well-said. Needs to be said more. History proves time and again that you have more to fear from your own government than from outside conquerors.

I learned, in class, in pubic high school, that the greatest threat to freedom was always governments, and that the US was pretty awesome because, so far, so good.

I never understood until recently that this idea wasn’t something everyone learned.

Bah, history is no indicator. Things didn’t work back then because we didn’t have the right people in place!!!

Plus, this time we’re trying harder!

Uncle, you are so right. My aunt lives near where the DC snipers were operating and was also freightened because of the 911 attacks. She took a lot of convincing that both were fluke attacks and that the DC snipers weren’t. The airliner attacks were a one time venture and I don’t believe they could happen again, neither can some terrorist hurt either of us. I have more chance of being run over than hurt by a terrorist and I try not to walk anywhere. Of course I do walk into the odd convience store occasionally so that might get me sometime.

The major threat of terrorism is our government’s reaction to it. And the only way that these foreign enemy terorists can attack us is if our government allows them in and brings them in…which they did and are doing.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
